CR-01 monster truck

I've been looking over Axial's new SMT10 truck but just can't justify spending $400 on an RTR that's slow out of the box as well. The idea of getting a Wheely King and modding that crossed my mind too until I looked over at my CR-01. Does anyone have any thoughts on converting a CR-01 into a monster truck? Looking at the gear ratios, it's going to need Clod tires just to get some speed out of it. The Clod being 30:1 and the CR-01 being, at best, 32:1. I don't want to tear the axles and such up if they couldn't take the strain of the bigger tires however. Anyone have any tips or ideas to consider? Thanks.

Not sure about the CR-01 (I know I'd like to have one of those, though!), but the Wheely King 4x4 is probably the best purchase anybody into hard RC bashing could make. Totally bang-for-the-buck, and ridiculously resistant! I know I would have never touched with a ten foot pole anything by HPI... until I happened to see what a guy was doing with a stock WK at a local park. So I got one. And it's the best hard basher I ever laid my hands on.

Highly recommended.

Traxxas Stampede 4x4 vxl.

Not cheap but proper rapid out the box.

Nothing bashes better at 1:10 scale. 50-60mph out the box on 3s lipo.

Now see, here's the problem with that. I'm trying to be a good boy by messing about with my current RC stuff but now I really want a Wheely King. Then my collection gets bigger and my wife starts rolling her eyes at me. Darn it, you guys are a bad influence for my addiction.

Well, I can't say myself much about any mods done to this truck, as I happen to love it in stock fashion (except of course that I wanted to paint it brown/gold, and do this ridiculous "Soccer Mom" thing), but I have seen in RCMT the guys there using special wheel adapters to use Clod Buster wheels, stretching the chassis, and souping them up with hot motors. A search there won't hurt, pal

I got this one as a partial chassis from a TCer in AZ. I don't think it would be hard to find another one, or you want a new one to modify?
