Lancia Stratos Project

Recommended Posts

Going to build a Lancia Stratos.

I have always loved this body!

Using HPI body and wheels, and BSR MRage chassis kit.

I couldn't find the exact wheels in yellow, so I had to get them in white and paint them yellow.

That's as far as I got so far.

So this will be a combined HPI Stratos Body / BSR Mrage build thread.

The chassis kit that I am using

Owned two real Lancias.  Have nearly a dozen Lancia RC bodyshells :-D

Tamiya 037 x4
HPI Stratos x3
Killerbody Stratos Turbo x1
Tamiya Delta x2

Totally going to order eventually the KB LC2 and maybe the KB Montecarlo in spite of its awkward proportions.

So this is a three day time lapse of applying decals to main body.

I actually cut away any clear portions of the decal after I apply them. Makes the stripes look more like a paint job.

Apparently the ones in the HPI catalog/promos are the white wheels dyed yellow.  Hence the matte finish.

Keep up the good work.  I had some fun with my last Stratos shell, I opened up the front grille and quarterlight vents:

I have tried to Dye wheels before but never had any luck. Maybe I was doing it wrong.

One of my favourite cars luv the shape of the body ,looks great .

I guess if your going to use it dye is the best option as it wont come off as opposed to painting ,only ever paint wheels as display most of my cars once finished.

Thanks for the awesome build pictures.

Stuart.

This car isn't an icon, it's a legend. I like it :)
I'm thinking from ages to do the same job on a M06 chassis.

The M06 is a good car just not for this body.   The rear-mounted motor overhangs too much unfortunately.  Which makes sense as the 1:1 is a mid-engine car.

That said you could just run it without the rear valence 037 style!  :D

Yeah, the BSR MRage chassis works perfect with it.

And you get the excellent performance of 4WD.

Yeah, if the paint starts to chip, I will buy a new set of wheels and dye them.
