Can someone please let me know how to add a third shock to the rear of a Pumpkin (the R/C variety)[;)] I've seen a pic of one in someones showroom, but I can't remember who it is. They attached another shock between the gearbox and the chassis, to replace the silly little springs on either side that break/or aren't there. I just want to know what the best way to attach it is, and what shock to use. I've got a spare shock from my Ferrari F-40,(58098)the one that connects the chassis to the rear. Will that one do?[?]

It's a well worthwhile mod to make, I've lost count of how many of those springs I've had to replace, and I've only had the Pumpkin a year. There's quite a bit of room there so I would think that more or less any shocker will fit, I'm going to use either a Mini-T one I have spare or possibly one of the friction dampers from one of my other kits.

Thanks to you all[^]. I've saved all you pics, so now I'll go and do it. Well, I'll do it tomorrow, it's late in the day/early in the night.[|)]

Here is "another option" for you guys that may want to make the pumpkin or lunchbox handle better. Toss out the 2 small springs, and the locater bar for the rear end. Drill a small hole in D7 and D8. Install either a screw or a screw pin(the screws with threads just below the head)to secure the rear end. This provides a nice solid hook up point for the entire rear end housing, plus still provides plenty of movement up and down.[8D]

Mervyn, this only gets up-down movement on both wheels at the same time, it is not possible to just have 1 wheel go up/down....it works but wil not make handling much better..... the 3rd shock solution does....

I don't even think you need to have a thrid shock, my bet is that a solid rod would also do - just to secure the axle in the middle. This will give a similar construction as the Fighter Buggy rear axle, which is also fixed (yet pivotable) in/around the middle. [8D]

Sjoerd,I would agree.I have raced these for many years and have had/built probably 30+. I think the secret to making these handle is 1) use a damper thats at least 1/2inch shorter than stock, and 2)"fixing" the rear end at the pickup points where it hooks up to the chassis.[8D]
