hi all

Looking to get the wild one or even the FAV soon, but looking at youtube clips they seam to sit down at the rear a bit.

Is there a mod to lift the back end up a bit?

Also what is the back end running gear is it a frog or hornet or is it a dedicated running gear for the wild one/FAV

Wild,

They do indeed "squat" when under power, but handle incredibly well and very quick with a stock 540 motor. With the Wild One, I'm unaware of any aftermarket kit that will lift the rear back up. What you can do is use a heavier weight shock oil than the kit, on the rears. When sitting still, its bum doesn't sag if the shocks are built correctly; I haven't had the issue on both of mine.

You're welcome! The Wild One will definitely be the better runner of the two. This thread just reminded me I need to pick up an FAV this year ;)

You can't really lift the rear. It has stops for the trailing arms, too much angle will cause problems with the drive shafts hence the stops.

I've been running a wild one for years & never had a problem with the rear end ride height.

With my Wild One, I'm running a 15T pinion on a standard 540 Mabuchi silver can with its original MSC. The differential is a known issue with the Wild One as it uses the same diff gears as the Frog. The differential works okay, just a bit stiff. Watch the gearing/motor combo or you're likely to strip the gears. You can do a search and find multiple topics regarding this.

But what is the running gear?  Just been watching an AMPRO youtube clip about the diff on a monster beetle and thinking is that the same gearbox as the frog and monster beetle?

Its drives really well, doesnt like the surface to be too rough so beach running is perfect. I use 300 weight oil in the shocks & the softer CRP springs, I find it handles better this way.

Mines a vintage one though, the rere shocks are probably a more efficient.

Its the same diff design but the wild one has a slightly different tooth count on the gears. I'm still running on my original diff. They dont suffer as much as the frog or the monster trucks as the wild one has different gearbox casings.

The wild one is better equipped out of the box as it has oil filled dampers. That's the mechanical difference between the two, the rest is just the looks.

I own a wild one but have often thought about adding a FAV to my collection with upgraded shocks.

If you prefer the look of the wild one then go for it!

Between the two, I highly recommend the Wild One over the FAV if you will be driving it a bunch. I love mine. Here it is in one of my videos. This is a stock WO.

Berman your Wild One really shifts, what motor did you have there and how did the diff handle it long term if at all? I hear the rear diff can fail under too much power but yours looks totally adequate if it lasts.

That sure is a good film clip.

Just a thought do you think tamiya HQ looks at this stuff and think "we should have done that"

I don't know but if Tamiya HQ is reading this, feel free to sponsor me and I'll make videos all day for them lol. Thanks man.

4000kv on 3s. My diff is stock apart from the 5x8 phosphate bushing in place of the washers trick. No issues.

It has managed 75kph on a coarse rugby field, with the 15t pinion.
