Hi all, any good recommendations for shocks upgrades for the Monster Beetle? Ideally would like to go to aluminium but am finding it really hard to source good aluminium shocks (have been looking for my Hotshot). Thanks :D

The standard Tamiya CVA shocks on the Beetle actually take some beating in my opinion. The vintage nature and lack of adjustment on the chassis holds it back anyway and you won't gain much, if anything even going to top spec Tamiya alu dampers.

Most cheap alu dampers including 3racing, Absima, the typical Chinese brands etc don't come close to Tamiya CVAs.

Gmade aeration/piggyback would be my minimum starting point for easily available aftermarket suspension; but realistically you will only gain a bit of extra tuning capability and some cool looking suspension. Money no issue then 100% buy some Gmade.

Get the Tamiya 50520s.  I did the Yeah Racing shocks and while they looked shiny and cool, they were junk.

I agree, 50520s give sense to every buck spent.

Good allìuminum shocks are expensive and, in my opinion, you have to consider the value of the car.

Aluminum shines and, in different moments, everyone's heart has beaten for it :)

If you really want aluminum you can consider the mix close to what I did for my MadCap: Ansmann bodies and CVA internals but yuo have to consider that the price doubles (more or less).

I have a set of gmade diaphragm shocks on order for the last 2 months, intended for a hotshot modification. No one has stocked them that I could find. Apparently they're now back in stock. V pricey also!

The traxxas look interesting.

Thanks for the responses guys.

What are the improvements in the stock CVAs over the 50520s? Apart from the colour improvement :)

The 50520 have several different piston head options, which attach to the piston rod via e-pins.  The standard MB/BF Kit Shocks have a one-piece piston that already has the head attached.

AFAIK, the rest of the CVA Damper pieces are the same.
