Yes, but now they are releasing it RTR, together with a RTR Monte Carlo Mini.

Btw, I found it interesting that the re-release Hornet is still made in Japan while many other RC kits aren't and also that the body still has the bump for the servo horn of the now not existing speed control servo, forgot/lazy to remove it or kept it as a characteristic element of the car?

The site does say the price is provisional and subject to confirmation. I wont be surprised if this goes up a bit by the time they arrive, especially as you can have free shipping in UK.

Theo, after installing an original speed controller in my re-release hornet I noticed a differance in the body. The original has the back window cut out to clear the speed controll resister, the re-release does not. To remidy the problem I had to slightly "tweak" the resister cover forward about a hair to make it fit. Worked out very nicely.[8D]

I agree with you stulec . I primairly use my LHS for everything from static models to my RC addiction . Ive been useing them since way back when I originally got the Lunchbox for my birthday ( it was just released at the time ) . For most peole that just walk in off the street and are not normal customers , they normally pay the posted price on stuff but since Im a regular and buy or order most of my stuff threw them I normally get a decent cut off the posted prices . Im sure they are still making money off me , but they take care of me at the same time too . There has been a few times whith some small bits and pieces that they just give them to me , not a real big deal but saves me a couple of bucks here and there . Though is a good example of the benifits of becoming a regular at your LHS and get to know the people working there ....

Just out of curiosity, has anyone heard any news of the rerelease of Hornet hopups, like front suspension set, or aluminum nerf bars etc?

Would be kinda cool.

I found a set of Dirt Burner aluminum nerf bars for my hornet a couple of weeks ago. jr-rc in Japan had them listed so I scooped them up. Last week I located a set of parma front dampers. The old vintage hop up parts can still be found with a little searching.

Or more usefully, any spare parts at all? Tamiya's site hasn't shown any "new release" of old codes, not on the Japanese language section or the English one, and the Japanese web shops don't have the parts either - stuff on ebay all well and good, but it's split from kits - once these get out on the roads there won't be enough bits to go around if it's only split kits. Chassis in particular on these in the wrong hands can break very easily at the front end...

For as cheap as the released hornet will be (ie $100usd), I think it won't be too expensive to just buy a spare kit. A few months $100 would buy a body and some wheels maybe.

Yes, but problem is that these (unlike other re-releases) don't seem to be stickered as limited spares and so on, so when kids get hold of them they'll get hammered - there will be plenty of stores which wouldn't warn people that parts are hard to get.

My main memories of Hornets & Grasshoppers was forever changing chassis on mine & friends ones because we'd got them stuck under a fence or landed upside-down and broke the front shock towers off - nothing else ever seemed to break that quickly, so you're going to build up a very large stash of gear cases, susp arms etc!

Jason has been selling more then 50 pairs of tires and wheels on his store, so I don't think he has been breaking up kits [;)]

I make no apologies for major thread resurrection...

--- Recently I purchased a very good original Hornet off the bay for £24, it really is a very tidy motor but the decals were poor, so ordered a set of reissue decals. Seeing 2004 in the bottom corner of the decals made me think has it been nearly 10 years since the Hornet was reissued (ok it was December so not quite 10 years but close enough)

For me the Hornet reissue was the real start of the reissue boom, ok you had the XR311 but the Hornet was main stream, I remember buying a NIB kit from Otley Models (now Modelsport) on Gay Lane in Otley after catching the (I think 733 bus from Leeds !!!) I paid I think about £48 for it then but could be wrong.

Just think the Hornet was released in 1984 - How long did it last 10 years ? now the reissue had done somat similar and sparked the whole reissue thing for me what with the Frog, Grasshopper, Hotshot and more recently the Fox - these are cars I grew up with back in the eighties.

I bought a reissue Hornet from Fusion when they first stocked them and I still have it now and still NIB - I should really build it.

I think i'll stick to my ebay vintage bargain.

Well, The Hornet was the 2nd Tamiya i ever bought after a 2nd hand Sand Rover and i still own it! :)

Don't know if i ever shared pics of it but the chassis is still in quite original state except for the rear gearbox which i replaced since it was scuffed through and losing oil. Body and decals are rere as the point that i started restoring it, was the point that the Tamiya virus bit me again. Do have some hop-ups on it that to date, are extremely hard to get.

I should get the headlights to mount on it but at the time, they were the first things that broke. Never got new ones and when i wanted to, i actually couldn't find the decals from the rere decalset anymore so i never persued it.

I run it occasionally but it is more shelf than runner. Should change the rear tires one day. Those are still the ones that came with the kit. heh

That Hornet looks a cracker - I've owned 1/2 dozen over the years. I'm looking forward to running the original one I've just bought. Think i'll save building the reissue Hornet until it's 10th Birthday !!!
