Other than the battery mounting in the fighter buggy/mad bull which is better than the hornet, I think the Hornet is actually the better chassis design. The steering on the Mad Bull/Fighter Buggy is pretty poor and isn't easy to upgrade. I also found the quality of plastic used on the later fighter buggy chassis types to be less rugged than on the hornet. The shock mounts are also fragile on the fighter buggy/Mad Bull. Maybe Tamiya are going to replace the 2WD buggy lineup with one based on the proper hornet chassis [;)]

Now if they just added a 4 link rear end to that solid axle and wishbones up front it'd be a great little 'Basher' buggy.

Actually I think I've seen a TC member (Westy?) running a conversion on the front end of his Grasshopper/hornet for wishbones, using the existing lower swing arms but a modified steering upright and upper arms looked pretty cool [8D]

I agree with mud4fun, Hornet isn't an obsolete design, as its basically used in the Mad Fighter/Fighter Buggies with it even being even better in the original IMHO. I think that even for the battery mounting as on the Hornet the center of gravity is lower, closer to the center/front and also the mass moment of inertia around the yaw axis is lower, the only thing it would need is a door with pin like some other buggies.

Mad Fighter/Fighter Buggies shouldn't be ignored as they introduced many youngsters to the hobby or even to racing with the Fighter Cup and imagine next years the Fighter Cups car to change to Hornet, a field of happy kids racing all with Hornets, what a beautiful image for us, like a flash back in time! I'm excited about the rerelease but more interm of hoping it starts a trend [:)] Dont think I'll be getting one. For me the hornet came around a bit too late first time I still had my scorcher and was beginning to drift away from the hobby anyway.

Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking anyone that likes them or wants to relive their childhood but having had them since I got back into the hobby, I now kind of feel that they were the beginning of the slippery slope for Tamiya models - the point where they really started to lose what was great about early tamiya models in the search of mass sales. Out of the 44 models before it - I'd quite like most of them, out of 300+ since, theres probably only about 20 intotal I'd really like.

That said I think the RC industry owes a huge debt to them bring RC to the masses so I guess they are not all bad.[;)]

BTW I know its a bit late in the day - but I just got this from the main uk distributor of Tamiya stuff

The new Hornet will be available globally.

It is basically the old Hornet with slight change to decals and new gift box

and of course addition of electronic speedo.

Hope this info helps.id="blue">

Hello,

I think the little registred decals like K&N, Cibié, Valvoline,.... will be differents. As for The WW2, blitzer decals, there are unknow marks because Tamiya doesn't own the license to produce a decals sheet with trademark or registred products on each models released or re-released, that's very expensive. You'll find "superblik", "sprotch shocks", "pufff exhaust" etc.....on the re-released hornet [:(]

Cheers,

François.

The cheap bodies spoilt the newer cars for me , they do look nice when finished , but there so cheap and flimsy.

But I will be ordering one ,looking at the one in Japan auctions it will include a radio , if so hope you have the option of stick type , as im old school and never liked the wheel thingy

Mervyn, you beat me too it (posting that). Tamiya-rc has already sold one at $350USD (I checked the completed auctions). Just as soon as he sold that one, he listed another.

Counting down to 12/8........ Are we there yet Momma........... Are we there now....... what about now.......

I guess all those paying $350.00 are the poor souls that don't realise what is around the corner. Should get their Christmas off to a really great start when the flood begins and they realise they just paid $200 over the odds[:(]

Oh GOD!!!! it's like when the BMW was rereleased!!!

The Hornet was THE first tamiya car that I ever saw and drove. This car is responsible for giving me Tamiyaitus.

Note to self, buy all of em!!!![8D]

Whats the betting that all the sand scorcher people will be buying up all the spare front tyres they can while they're gonna be cheap? [:D]

So am I seeing this new Hornet right? The only difference is the stickers right? The copyright stuff? Also the picture of the new Hornet on the box art has the different stickers too right? So we'll all be able to tell the difference between the new kit and the old kit..[;)]

New Hornet kit with a original sticker kit. I'll take 3 please.

Jason,

Do you know if the Mini Monte Carlo is based on the old M01 chassis, or is it the actual M03 ?

id="quote">id="quote">

Its the first expert built M Chassis so will probably be something slightly new, a modified M04 perhaps. Definately wont be an M01

I would say for sure Tower will have them as will many hobby stores. They have all had the other re-releases so why not this one?[8D]

I agree totally, the Hornet is fine and all as a car many people enjoy but at a casual glance they look similar to the multitude of other RC cars made since (to lay person, I'm talking about).

The really good looking cars were the ones built before the hornet and had actual personality rather than a clip on piece of lexan. The FAV/Wild One has to be chalked up as a great looking car. I seriously think the average consumer of RC cars today who doesn't intend to race their purchase would love to bash around with the FAV/Wild One. The FAV has a scale M60 Machine gun for crying out loud, does it get cooler than that? (Rhetorical Question :) )

The FAV, Holiday buggy, Wild Willy, Ranger, etc looked like interesting projects whereas the Hornet and its brethern looked like just another toy to be played with until it no longer captures the imagination.

Having said all this I'll still buy a Hornet if/when it is re-released (unless it is a rediculous price) as a runner.
