About 17 years ago my TA02 was put away wet, now it's time to revive it.

I only have 2 aims with this build and that is to replace broken/damaged parts and try and fit a GT1 shell as best as I can.

There are some areas of this car I'm interested in but we will see if my ideas come to fruition during the build.

So far I have stripped, cleaned and retained serviceable parts and now waiting for replacements.  The dampers have been rebuilt with new caps and O rings.  Rear differential has also been rebuilt with all new internals and the front one way serviced.  I do have some option parts which I might include in the build.

First picture shows damaged parts, cracked cases, threaded motor mount and damaged front chassis which had been repaired with resin.

Second picture, bearing failure?

Third picture, I made some CF shafts to replace the metal items and rebuilt the differentials.

Some parts arrived, which allowed me to continue the build.  Firstly the car got treated to a new bearing kit, to replace the tired items.  I came across a hard prop shaft for a bargain, so I purchased.  I wasn't planning on spending unnecessarily but I couldn't resist.  GPM motor mount, to finally do away with the plastic item.  The screws which go through the case were a little long, so used x2 washers per screw - sorted.  FRP damper mounts, F and R, were also purchased.  These were the important parts as I believe that they would allow me to manipulate the body as required.  Whilst rooting around through spares, I managed to put together a x7 piece tie rod set for the car.

So I suppose stage 1 for GT2 to GT1 is to reverse the rear lower arms.  The only other thing I did do was to use x1 O ring at each end of the dog bone, as there was too much movement.

Note:  I'm not replacing the rear bumper, as this has no real value.

I like where this is going :-D   GT1 cars are sweet.  I've collected many GT1 bodyshells at this point- 911 GT1, 911 GT1 98 LM Winner, Kyosho McLaren F1 GTR longtail, Parma Panoz Esperante GTR1, CLK GTR, and a few others.

Have you tried a test fit of the GT1 body on the ta-02 chassis.  The body really low in the front and I'm thinking the front tower sits too high and won't allow the body to sit low enough.

@firefoxussr

Cheers Gary, I do like the GT1s. Got my own little collection too.  :)

@Shodog

Yeah I have to admit that this is my main concern too, damper mount height.  I did a quick pre-test and saw this - the car had no electrics which made it look quite bad.  IIRC the rear tower was the biggest problem.  I was thinking about cutting/re-drilling the FRP towers or fabricating new towers.  I will only know the direction I'll take when the car is built with electrics installed.

One of the areas I wanted to look into was the possibility of fitting hard case lipos.  My solution to this was to remove the top plate and scratch my head.  Reason why was because removing the top plate would create another two issues.  Bracing of the chassis and a platform for the esc.  So being a typical bloke I threw caution to the wind and continued.

Firstly the opening for sliding in the battery was enlarged.  Then I had to reduce the webbing in the tub.  Once that was done I had to think of a way of retaining the battery.  A simple, 2mm CF angle, battery plate was fabricated, with x2 flanged nuts pressed into the chassis.  I could not get too carried away here, trying to make a quick release or what ever because the body pinches in there.

Anyway, time to think about esc mounting.  Got a few ideas already.

Well at least parts are cheap so go ahead and modify away. A shorty lipo looks like it would fit in the existing space without the extensive modification you have undertook.

Yeah, chassis not too expensive, but everything I've done can be reversed engineered to oem.  A shorty pack would fit length ways but will still have issues getting it to seat in the compartment and getting it into the chassis.  I also don't want to be limited to shortys.

Made the esc plate out of 3mm CF plate.  Cut pretty much with zero tolerances and persuaded onto the chassis.  Now rock solid without further fixings.

My attention has now turned to the x2 screws mountings at the front of chassis, left/right, for the steering - as I have had these fail on me a few times.  Was tempted to cut them out and replace them with metal stand-offs or even sleeving, but I'll probably just resin it again.

I run 3300Mah 3s in my TA02. Although they are not hard case type. Fit perfect after some small clearance removal on the corners.

@Shodog  You were right as usual.  RIP.

After a lot of messing about, finally got it to fit.

To be fair, the body could do with shifting forwards by 1mm.  Not sure how to achieve this yet.

I got into RC airplanes in mid 2019, glad to see you are back at it.

I did pick up the re-release GT1 off a fellow racer who built up the chassis but didn't paint the shell, I'm doing it up in a period correct non-stock livery.  MCI graciously assisted with making this a reality.

@firefoxussr  lol, I got into motor bikes.  It's good to see you are back too.

Well this worked.  Only had to make new front low suspension mount.  Fits better than the TA03RS chassis.  Just got to paint it.  Tempted to put Le Mans Winner livery on it.

Interested to see what you do.
