TB01 best rally car ever. Indestructable and heavy, which actually works really well on gravel.

But parts getting hard to find and expensive now, so my vote would still be the xv01.

Crumble sorry pal I just searched TB01 on EBay UK and there isn't a single one for sale! Doesn't bode well for buying spares as easy as the TL01 which is abundant ( I just got outbid and lost a TL01B at the last second - figured I could get familiar with the 'TL01' Chassis by having that wider "b" chassis - just because I have a Ford F-150 already painted just needing a chassis)

I've passed on Prescients XV01 as it seems a more involved build and yes I want Pre built. The MF01X does look good and I saw that Skoda rally version here but it's too short for my desired 260mm wheelbased shell.

Glad you also confirmed longer shock eyelets and rally blocks to raise the ride height ;)

Thanks Chang for the input as always very helpful, that backs up the stout rep for the TL01, and Turnip I will try and fit that TL01B front bumper onto any TL01 I buy, cheers mate.

No-one sells TB-01s - they're keepers 😉

I think they share parts with the nitro cars but @njmlondon's points are valid. Mine will only have light use when I eventually get round to it so I'm not too worried. Cost me less than some of the TL01s on the 'bay too.

Reckon you'll have fun with the TL01/B - there are good reasons why there are so many out there and it is so easy to get spares. It was my first Tamiya because I thought that I wanted a rally car - until I stumbled across that Bowler shell!

This thread contains some good resources for a TL01 rally build

If you want prebuilt only you should definitely consider a TA02.

Parts are still plentiful with the swb version still being used for a variety of Porsches. Cheap and very reliable.

Loads on ebay right now including one with a Lancia body.

Using the U-shaped front hinge pin thing from the TL-01B in conjunction with the TL-01B front bumper is said to significantly increase the resilience of the front end, as the metal U-shaped pin thing takes a lot of stress off the plastic parts.

I remember doing the same for my TL-01 rally chassis.

Besides, there are some articles by Blackholesun on the TL-01 and TL-01B:

I guess using it as a touring car and rally car should put a lot less stress on the suspension mounts and shock towers, when comparing to its buggy cousin?

tl01b is a tl01 with longer arms and different steering knuckles/hubs, 2 center line body posts and a pair of wing mounts, everything else in and on the chassis is the same. the B model will push the wheels outside the body stadium blitzer/thunder style

Would a Tamiya Ford F-150 shell look ok sat on a TL01B Chassis?

Baja King + Baja Champ - This chassis is the on-road TL-01 variant with different front uprights and longer arms (to make it larger, thus more stable on off-road tracks).

So the TL01B was only the Baja King and Baja Champ but the body mounting and wing can be made to accept the Ford shell just want to know if it would look odd, how wide is the Baja King /Champ?

I would say the XV01 is a better rally car than the TB01. Lot of love for the TB01 still though.

The tl01ra was ok as a rally car due to the larger wheels and pin spiked tyres.

However, they wore out too quickly on anything but grass and rally blocks reduced the GC.

The TT02 is actually a very capable rally car as well, you could genuinely have this one off me if you want a runner. I just didn't have time to build the XV01.

wheel track of the TL-01B is about the same as a blitzer beetle, or most other buggies, so as far as if it would look good would completely depend on the wheels and tyres used, but what you would basicly have is a ford 4wd stadium blitzer

Did you get your rally car yet?

Just saw this TA02 Escort Cosworth in the Sales and Trades bit of the forum.

Just add knobbly tires (and suitable wheels please!) an hit the gravel.

Thanks Njm that Tiger striped Cossie looks very nice, however I just bought the above linked TT02 Rally spec car so my quest for now is over, I'd love a Cossie shell but they are rare now.

I did IT some years back with a ford raptor body for a stampede. With some nice crawler tires I liked IT.

Cool Dave as I've just nabbed a nice looking Baja King off EBay so I can't wait to try my F150 shell on it. At last I've finally got a TL01 (b) Chassis too ;)

Mine is converted down to a tl01 with a 53 f100 body. Ma go to the b chassis again one day. Gotta get tje Tl 01 body posts. Which are the same as WR 02 posts. Gives it the height you will need
