I was offered a Hilux Snorkel a couple of days ago and was thinking if using one on a 1979 SR-5 would look off. I mean if a snorkel would not look like something you would have used in a real Toyota pick-up back in 1985, not today. I began thinking I don't remember seeing snorkels early in the 80's. I believe I did early in the 90's decade, but I might be wrong so I thought about asking you guys about it. Odd Q I know.

Something like this:

You all have a good Thursday! :)

Safari snorkels were developed in Australia in the early '80s, but took a while to become popular internationally. So if your Toyota was driving across the outback in 1985, a snorkel wouldn't have been out of place.

Thank you! :)

Just make sure to put it on the left side (driver's side for Americas/Europe), like that photo shows. The carb/intake manifold on a 22R/RE is actually on the right side, but the runner for the intake air goes across the top of the engine to the other side. So a snorkel would attach to that and come out the left side of the hood.
