Hi built the cc01 a while ago but still get it to run easily. The wheels don't turn that easily and I'm wondering what I've done wrong. Checked front gearbox numerous times but still not running smooth. Any help or advice appreciated

Your description is a bit vauge, but here are some things to try or look at..

Have you fitted ballraces to the car?

Is it the front that seems to be the issue?

Have you removed the rear drive shaft and checked to see if the rear wheels and axles turn freely?

Does the car roll freely if you remove the motor?

Are you using the original pinion (motor) gear, and have you selected the correct mounting holes for that size pinion on the motor plate?

Is the pinion gears grub screw hitting on the spur gear?

Could you have overtightened the wheel nuts and damaged or cracked the plastic hex drives which is then causing them to bind?

Have you lifted the suspension to the point that its causing the dog bone drive shafts to bind?

Get back to me ASAP with some answers and we can go from there..

Hi,

if you have run the car quite a bit it might be the steering rod, that runs through the chassis to connect the lower steering arms to the servo. Since there are no bearings and dust protecting the rod wears over time and is harder to move. This issue is quite common with the CC01.

There are some aftermarket steerings. Personally from the ones momentarily available I only know the gpm one which also isn't perfect.

No ball raced fitted

yeh it does seem to be the front

rear axles moves ok

Yes it rolls perfect without the motor in however it is on the right pinion and hole

Will check the grub screw I guess it would need tightening up?

Wheel nuts not over tightened

suspension standard

new build so no wear and tear

Ballraces will help the drive train turn with less friction, and they are not that expensive to buy these days.. (Bearings will make a big difference)

If it rolls OK without the motor, or in other words the drivetrain is free to turn when the motor is not fitted, then that would suggest that the motor is at fault, or the resistance that you are feeling when you try to turn the wheels with the motor fitted is normal for the chassis..

Does the motor get excessively hot (i.e. smoking hot) after you have run it for a while?  What about the ESC, does it get hot??

What size battery (in mAh) do you use, and how long does your CC01 run for on a fully charged battery??

Is it reasonably quiet when it is running or do you get whirring or grinding sounds from the gearbox??
