I was considering them myself, and started looking around here. I found a bit more info in this thread:

Thanks Buddy. 🤝

Mine just stopped working. Details are in that thread.

That's interesting. I've used the water cooled black ones in a couple of boats for a while, never had any problems.

My brother ran that combo in his EcX Ruckus for 5-6 months. It was pretty quick, cheap and cheerful sort of thing.

Personally I think 4370kv is a bit much for a dt03.

I just bought a 3900kv of that combo for a different off brand RC, similar price with the orange motor etc and it all seems ok, indoor testing went fine so I'm expecting good things from it.

I've had other GoolRC motors and ESC's in the past without issue so I'd say they are a decent cheap brand but not known for top end cars, budget wise they can't be beaten.

Think I might give one of these a go myself, can't complain about the price :)

Just what I was thinking.

I took apart 4080 1500kv marine version around a year ago. It just needed a £2.00 bearing after two years use. The machining and internal quality seemed just as nice as some more expensive brands, so nothing lost there.

I think any problems would most likely come from the ESC. The 120A Turnigy, HobbyKing and two generic Chinese units all look identical. However, the price varies hugely and they're all made in China. The marine ones may benefit from better stability because of the water cooling. Even though the fan unit on the heat sink doesn't do a huge amount, it does tempt me over the other cheaper makes.

The extra cost probably comes down to which level of quality control you're paying for, the branding and perhaps one or two component differences. The days of saying"don't buy the Chinese one" have passed.

Subject to approval from The Chancellor, I'll try 3100kv version to keep the heat to a minimum. I'd rather have a bit more torque than uncontrollable speed.

I have a few of these under various brand names, they have all worked great, I think they are a proper bargain.

I have a 2430 (280 in brushed size) in 5800kv and matching 25A ESC, a 2445 size 3000KV with 35A ESC and then there's a 3665 (550 size) 3300KV with a 60A esc and an F380 (380 size but with cooling fins that bulk it out to 540 size 3300KV with 60a ESC.

They come in generic blue, Racerstar, Goolrc and various other brands and I'm pretty sure it all comes out the same factory. Even my SKYRC F380 seems to be exactly the same as the cheaper blue version even though it cost a fair bit more.

There's a few mid price motors out there that look uncannily similar and have the same specs too.

They say you get what you pay for but there's a few things from China that are genuinely impressive for the price and the brushless motors are a good example, at least in my experience.

Good call on the motor spec in my opinion. My brushless kit in my DT03 is 3300kv and it's nicely quick and a bit of a handful sometimes. The 3800kv kit in my Thunder Dragon on the 120a esc is a complete nutter in comparison! Dead to think what it would be like trying to use it on a 2wd, not that this is saying much. I am not a great driver!

Do you some links to the esc you mention that are identical? I've been wondering about this, a mate is convinced that they will test the esc and the top 10% say get a brand name on them and sold for squillions, the next 40% get something like trackstar put on them and sold for a reasonable price, the next 40% are unbranded and sold for next to nothing on places like banggood and aliexpress, and the rest are junk. He is basing this on how motherboards and cpu's were rated (or maybe still are) where they were all made the same but the faster ones were given higher MHz ratings (showing my age, yes I meant to use a M!) or features turned off to make them cheaper.

I'll put some info together  for you. 👍

That looks so close to the hobbywing, and from your other thread the same programming card works right? So it likely is the identical product but may just be the ones that didn't make the cut for Hobbywing, or is just a knockoff where the factory produced far more than Hobbywing ordered? We shouldn't really be supporting the latter though...

Yes, hobbywing card works. It's not identical spec as the functions don't completely align with the card, but not far off. For £11 it was worth a punt. I understand ethical issues surrounding these kind of things but it's not like it's hidden. Hobbywing must be aware. In my industry Chinese factories producing knock offs it a small problem but brands shut it down as soon as they find out by and large.

I find stuff usually arrives towards the start of the quoted window. Sometimes it comes even quicker, as little as 5 days. I think a lot of the sellers pay for their shipping in bulk so they let stuff build up before they ship it so if you happen to buy something at the same time that they send a big shipment out it can arrive really quickly.

I just can't buy one of these purely based on the asinine name. It's a stupid reason I admit.

Not going to lie. The first time I read it, I was like "What the heck is a Gool?". It was enough to get my attention though.

I use a Carson 12.5 turns / 3380 kV brushless combo in my DT-02 Sand Viper (same gearbox and front + rear suspension arms as the DT-03). Plus a LiPo battery. For my liking, this is plenty of power. Some would say this is an understatement. I wouldn't go any higher than 3500 kV. A wheelie bar (e.g. Lunchbox wheelie bar) mounted at the back of the gearbox is mandatory.

Please see also:

In my DT-01 Mad Bull, there's a Carson 16.5 turns / 2500 kV brushless combo. Thanks to the big wheels (affects drive ratio), the car will go pretty fast, too.
