Sand Viper wheel question

Recommended Posts

I just got back into the buggies in storage, and got my Sand Viper going again. Does anyone have a link to or know of what good street tires and replacement sand tires/rims will fit.

I can never tell what to order to get this going, and appreciate any help here

thank you!

The Sand Viper uses the DT-02 chassis with a 12mm hex fitting at the rear and a bearing-in-wheel fitment at the front - the standard arrangement for a great many 2WD buggies from Tamiya and other manufacturers, so you have a big range to choose from.

These are the ones I am considering for my DT:

From what I have read, they last well on tarmac and aren't bad offroad either. And they are shiny! :)

I have a DT03 chassis (similar to DT02) and run Schumacher RT1 green compound street tyres. Slippy enough to still be fun and fairly long lasting.

Just get some inserts with them and they'll be good on the wheels you already have

These look awesome, thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention, I am in the US - are there any vendors selling these stateside?  or do I just need to get them shipped overseas?

thanks again for the help, those look just like what I wanted.

The Carson All Terrain wheels have brittle rims. The tires come preglued and don't include inserts.

I'd go for ThunderDragonCy's suggestion, reusing the stock 2.2" wheels with other tires and inserts.

Or just use the Carson All Terrain rear tires on the stock wheels and inserts. This is what I did after the All Terrain rims broke on my car.

The Sand Viper stock front tires are fine for tarmac.

I have read of the claims that Carson rims are brittle, however they were fitted to the car that Nobbi1977 let us borrow for a RC fundraiser which involved hour upon hour of absolute novice drivers crashing repeatedly, and the rims were fine, as are the ones my mate has fitted to his DT-02 basher that has been seeing regular use for several years, so I don't see them breaking in normal use.

That said, Carson is based in Germany and I don't know if they have any sales presence in the US. They would probably send you some, but you could probably find something similar closer to home with quicker, cheaper postage.
