I've not much experience painting hard bodies. Id painted my LB body and cleared it. All nice. It was then polished using auto glym. Came up nice, I used a cloth for that, mistake happened when I went for a second polish. I used the small polishing wheel on my dremel, it ate straight through to the plastic on the roof. Really annoyed. I tried masking off the rest of the body and using Halfords paint prep to try and degrease the roof. I then sanded back the area using 1200 grade. I've re sprayed it but it's clear the area will show as a lump, plus the residual polish is interfering!

is there anyway I can rescue it without it looking second tier? It was really nice before, so annoyed.

thanks all for advice in advance

Unfortunately Sir there is no easy fix for this :( The only way that this wont show, Is to sand back and repaint :o The problem is, That unless the surrounding paint is the same level, It will always show ......

Thanks chevelle, appreciate the honesty. I've stuck a few layers down and can see it'll leave a witness mark. Crikey this hobby can be really frustrating. It's not good for those presdisposed to OCD tendencies ha :-)))

You could always just strip the whole thing and start over. You wont be thevfirst nor tge last... oven cleaner I believe does the job. I stripped my WW m38 body down 5 coats of paint. Before sanding and repainting

Wise words spoken here ^ but if it's just the roof you could sand the whole roof itself, mask it off at the roof line that way you won't be able to see the difference

If you're going to strip the whole body use Wilkos paint stripper.

I stripped the body on my Vintage Ford Ranger body (which I was very nervous about) and I've also done my 2010 Sand Scorcher, both times  I had no problems at all brought them up really clean.

Just washed them off with cold water and they were ready to paint.

I feel your pain!

My Scorcher body is back in a bucket of break fluid to strip for the 2nd time! Painting is an art form and it is so easy to mess it up after hours of work.

Here you good bud, this 500ml did both body's three coats on each and there's still some left.

When you apply it paste it on really thick leave it for a couple of hours wash it off dry the shell then repeat until it's all gone both my shells took about three coats.

Cheers everyone, really appreciate the input. I'm going to try just sanding the whole roof back first to repaint as a uniform surface, and then if that's still a mess up or looks like it's going to be sub par into paint stripper. An interesting thing is where I have attempted to respray some paint has blended into the layer that had polished clear coat on. And that paint is more shiny than the rest of the car was before I mucked it up. Ha, talk about ironic.

Ah no, you have my sympathies. That must be so frustrating. You're so right, I'd rather have messed it up at the beginning than the finishing straight. Sod's law says its going to happen then of course!

My opinion:

Use filler (e.g. Tamiya White Putty) on the damaged part. Then sand back carefully. Mask off the rest of the bodyshell apart from the roof. Then apply a new coat of paint.

If paint stripping is unavoidable, use Methoxypropanol PM or similar chemicals.

Is it in a spot you could cover it up with a decal or something like a roof rack or scale accessory?    I have done that in the past to cover up accidents or scratches.
