What is the #1 thing you hate about Tamiya?

To make things more confusing, the picked up a Tamiya screwdriver that mentions JIS compatibility on the package, but it was sold as a Phillips head screwdriver.

I know what you mean!

I had examined this in detail, including using macro lens to take a picture of my 74007. It seems that there are a JIS v2.0, which is closer to Philips than the original JIS.

I actually find my Amazon Value PH bits performs better than the Tamiya screwdriver on Tamiya screws.

When I do a whole bunch of research and finally decide on the vehicle I would like to get only to find out Tamiya have discontinued it and it is impossible to find. Happened on 2 occasions so far.

In most entry level kits yes, it is a bit silly.

A little while back I thought something that would be completely different and a big challenge was one of their tanks. After a load of reading I decided the Pershing was the one for me. There are some on ebay for silly money and some scammers too. Put in one purchase on ebay and paid to then be told "oh sorry we dont have that in stock but we could send you this instead?" which was a much cheaper kit, thankfully I got my money back. Another seller appeared with exactly the same photos so steered clear. After that I gave up on the Pershing.

I started a thread recently asking people for enjoyable builds and had lots of great feedback. Several kits have been added to my mental wishlist as a result. Got some great additional advice from @Kowalski86 and decided a TT-02 would be a nice second build. Very different from my GF-01 but not too huge a leap. Narrowed it down to the standard TT-02 and maybe a couple of hop-ups and then after a lot of looking at pictures on tamiyabase of the various bodies I decided my favourite was the Ferrari 458 Challenge. Spent quite some time last night searching only to find the 458 was released in 2013 and is discontinued. Theres a couple for sale on ebay for about £600 and I couldnt find a stand alone body kit that could be purchased separately either. On this occasion I am not giving up on the TT-02 and am trying to decide which is my second favourite body. I quite like the Supra Racing and have seen that for sale for £109. There will be a purchase of some sort in the next few days :)

About 5 years back I went through a phase of wanting a collection of Tamiya made super cars, I eventually got about 6 but had to go with other manufacturers bodyshell a as a lot the Tamiya ones were too rare, this was my collection, all sold now 🤦‍♂️

What I hate about Tamiya is having to buy whole trees for a small part 🤦‍♂️

What surprised me on MF-01X, there are metal bushings and a hardened shaft on the idler/spur gear.. I doubt there are any savings compared to bearings in that case.

In some drivetrain areas, Tamiya will provide olite bushings in place of the nylon stuff.

One of the main reasons that I bought a Frog, was that they came with ballbearings for the transmission AND oil shocks.

A very pretty collection. Were they all TT-02 or a mixture of chassis?

+1 on parts availability.

I really when japanese youtubers just grab random parts to modify their tamiya cars…

For me to be able to do that, I will just have to order bunch of parts overseas and hope they work which often costs much more and require to order more parts lol..

Only 1 xTT02, mostly TT01 with a TB03 and TB04 I think. ( TT01 must have been cheaper to buy a base chassis 😂)

It is a bit bothersome

Currently I can't get tires for my Hornet (without buying from a breaker), nor can I buy a set of on-road springs (not critical but kinda important if I were racing).

I am bummed out that Tamiya doesn’t make the Rover Mini Cooper body anymore.

(I didn’t read all 9 pages, so sorry if it’s been said)

Hate is a big word but I'm massively disappointed Tamiya doesn't make a generally available and budget friendly belt driven 4WD M-chassis.
