I'd start with fitting a full set of ball races, that'll remove a lot of friction from the drivetrain and make the car a bit quicker, I'd also look at fitting an esc (if it's got a mechanical speed controller) which will save weight and make the power a lot smoother and controllable. If you can afford it I'd also recommend changing from 7.2 nimh's to 7.4v lipos they're lighter and give more power and longer runtimes.

ESC will allow you to use much hotter brushed motors eventually, should you so wish.

Counter to what our friend said above, I would be tempted to steer clear of lipo batteries for a while. I know lipos are punchier but I don't like the idea of the faff and fire risk so I am quite happy with my nimh batteries. They're dead cheap too.

Does the mad fighter have the same steering as the mad bull? I know you don't have the silly monster truck wheels but getting rid of the sloppy linkage would make it respond better.

In need of some new front wheels to, currently got some on road ones (not to original ones) but after some that would be perfect for loose gravel as I use my car when I am on lates at work at our empty car park
