Guys,

I've seen reports of problems that people have had with Blackfoot (and Monster Beetle etc.) gearboxes. I've also seen the various reinforcement plate solutions.

I'd love to rebuild my Blackfoot gearbox with one of those solutions in place, to guard against any issues down the line. The problem is I can't find any for sale anywhere.

I don't have the skills nor equipment to make anything myself. Neither do I know anyone who is able to do so.

Does anybody know of an available solution?

The stock side plates are fine. The best way to keep the diff from separating is to bolt the two outdrives together, using the "oldfrogshot" method (drill and tap) or the modified "2mm threaded rod" method that I and some others have used. Search, and you shall find.

I'd seen the drill and tap method but discounted it due to lack of tools.

Have looked for threaded rod method and that seems easier, if I can get the parts.

Already added my interest in @mheald thread. Don't think he's been on here for a while though.

I'm contemplating the ball diff, but I'd also need to upgrade the driveshafts and that makes it a bit spendy

i once bought the parts from mheald, but i didn' use them. i would sell them for the price mheald asked, but  i got the monster beetle version and i am unsure if it works on the blackfoot.

I have some steel plates I made for a vintage Blackfoot that have never even been used. They don't look spectacular but should work just fine.

I tried the frogshot thing and broke my tap off in the cup trying to thread it. The cups aren't made from soft metal by any means and the thread has to be fairly deep to work. This makes it a challenging option to say the least.

I also have a set of Blackfoot universals that I bought for it that I don't need if you're interested (and in the US) send me a PM and I'm sure we can work something out.

Thanks, but I'm in the UK so shipping costs would probably not make it worthwhile.

I could well be interested but I'll have to see if I can find out what the differences are between the 2 sets of parts. I'll have another read through mhealds thread and see if it is mentioned.
