Hard Plastic Glue

Recommended Posts

I've done a little digging and found testors modeling glue and UHU Plast Special are decent glue for repairing hard plastic as they weld the plastic. Any others?

No 2 plastics are alike... each has their own unique welding solvent or adhesive.

Testors Modelling Cement is like Airfix glue, it'll be for Styrene plastics.

ABS is similar but polystyrene cement.

Nylon? Not much sticks to that.

Non-reinforced plastic chassis: ABS. Pintopower (Ampro Engineering) has a good tutorial repairing the Hornet chassis on Youtube, can't find it at the moment, but must have been uploaded in early June.

Hard bodyshell: Polystyrene. I use Revell Contacta Professional for polystyrene. The fine needle tip makes applying a neat job.

Could not find that video to save my life....ending up buying a few products. Zap-A-Gap Medium CA glue with Zap Kicker Accelerant and Testers Plastic Cement.

Going to try Testers 1st and then if that doesn't work i'll give CA with baking soda a try and hit it will the kicker.

What would a typical RC frame be made of....like the hornet?

For ABS, like you see on a Hornet, one of the things you do when 3d printing is dissolve some in acetone to make a paste to "glue" pieces together.

You could try "plastic weld", I've found it useful for some fixes.

It's not a glue but a chemical that slightly melts certain plastics.

Easily found on eBay for a few quid.

Plastruct Bondene is one brand that works very well for styrene body shells. For ABS, I've always wondered if the plastic welding stuff that plumbers use for ABS pipes would work.

Plumbing is PVC pipe, they weld with a solvent like ether.

ABS welding solvent is more like acetone.

White pipes are PVC, black are ABS. At least here in the US...
