I have to know this, is the blackfoot and the wild one's counter gears different?

Must know. NOW!

Am I correct in believing that the blackfoot counter gear has 51 teeth, while the wild one counter gear has 52? can someone ppppleeease clear this up.. I must know, as my balldiff somehow catches on the counter gear in my Wild One []

Okay I'm not sure what the tooth count on these are but tamiya did make small variances in the differant diff gears. Some swap back and forth and some don't. But I have no idead which ones do and don't? Someone on ebay sent me what looked like an x-ray,or maybe an undeveloped picture a few years ago,with the diff gears from a frog,blackfoot,wild one and hot shot and maybe a few others. They were super impossed over each other and you could see the differance. I'm guesssing thats what has led to your problem. merv

Yeah, I've been doing some research, and from what I gather there is some difference, I just counted the counter gears number of teeth, but it now seems apparant that the FAV/Wild one have 52 teeth counter gear, and the Subaru Brat has a 50 tooth one - which I guess also the blackfoot has. So basicly I went and bought a blackfoot counter gear, and I'm hoping that the slightly smaller size will sort everything out.

I think you'll find also that the teeth numbers will go up in twos, not by one.

This is so that when meshing, they keep the fact that different teeth will meet different teeth each time round. So one bad tooth won't wear out another directly, it's wear will be distribiuted across all teeth of the other gear.

Well, I'm getting a new counter gear so I hope that works out.

Anyway, now I have to pick a new pinion.

Standard with the 52 tooth counter it says it takes either 15 or 18 tooth pinion (different mounting holes), so I guess I'll have to experiment with either a 16, 17 or 19?
