A few months back I was contacted by Marcus, the editor of Tamiya Model Magazine who had seen my cars and wanted to put together a feature. I rewrote and expanded something I'd written for Tamiyabase, altering it to be more relevant to an audience of scale modellers, and supplied all the photos.

It took a few months but the issue came out not so long ago. I had been waiting for a physical copy of the mag which I'd planned to photograph and post, but I've yet to receive it.

It's quite an honour, I've had articles I've written published before in 1:1 car mags but never photos and never a cover!

Awesome Truck Norris, well done. You must be well chuffed. Have seen your photos and work on various sites, and it's always amazing looking. Deserved.

It will be nice to see something R/C related in this magazine for once. Well done Truck Norris.

Some of the very earliest issues of Tamiya Model Magazine had some R/C content. But for far too long, this magazine has been a plastic model snore-fest with a tank on every cover.

And hey, I like plastic models too. I don't mind military models. But.... omitting R/C entirely from their own modelling magazine, for decades? This has always seemed like a weird decision by Tamiya. A bit of R/C content each month - particularly some nice historical articles - would ensure some extra copies would sell to the R/C crowd. After all, print magazine sales are in decline around the world.

Top work and well-deserved.  Nice to see you getting some recognition from the twin stars :)

I used to buy this mag years ago, but I got bored of what appeared (to my disinterested eyes) to be the same detailed tank build every issue. Zimmerit anyone ?

I'll pick this copy up tomorrow.  Maybe if they see a spike in sales, they might cover more of our stuff.

Thanks guys!

I think the Model Mag is squarely aimed at static modellers, even if it wasn't originally. It's pretty clear that my stuff is only of interest to the mag because of the added details, 99% of their readers probably don't care if the car is a TT-01 or TB EVO.6 underneath.

There doesn't seem to be much overlap between the static and RC worlds, it could be argued that even though this is Tamiyaclub it's really only "Tamiya RC Club".

Anyhow, maybe if this goes down well they'll do more on the RC side :)

Fantastic news, congratulations Truck, as per everyone else's comments, nice to see your work be appreciated, acknowledged and recognised 'officially' and in print and Front Cover no less, I'm really pleased for you :)

Well done and well deserved, your stuff has always had great attention to detail, photos too and the execution is always awesome.

Finally tracked down a copy yesterday.  Really good article, I was an admirer of your skills before but even more so now.

Rest of the magazine was even more boring than I remember though, and that's from someone who still makes the occasional static model.  And what's with the paper quality ?  Glossy cover, then the rest of it is just recycled bogroll.

Congrats A! You would expect the static model fraternity to be a bit more lenient to us RC guys being that the majority of us Tamiyaphiles prefer the styrene, but I am astounded you showed em with polycarbonate! Your work is always impressive, I don't need to tell you that, but glad you got the recognition you deserve from people who would normally turn a blind eye.

Your rally cars are gorgeous mate, but come on now, lets see another MT 😉

Hopefully will get to see it in the flesh next time I get to my LHS.
