Looks like the kit may suffer from a few issues out of the box.. but luckily they have made option parts to fix these.

It will be interesting to see what we can do with it.

Anyone have a guess when they will release the option parts to the US? Id like to get a few and put then in while I build it.

It would be nice if builders can give reason to any additional hopups etc rather than just because you can....😀

As a crawler and from the current vids, it doesn't seem to need any hopups unless durability issues arise (ie slipper bearing)

(Maybe tyres to tweak performance in different surfaces)

Your right. It does seem stout right out of the box.

The one thing I see being an issue is the motor mount. Some have had issued with the motor not being clamped tights enough.

But an aluminum motor mount is usually an upgrade I do before I even run the truck. The yeti is a good example of that.

That and the small lockers might give out under brushless power. Time will tell.

  • Front CVD shafts - Usually allow more steering throw and eliminate the drive cup coming off the dogbone at extremes of steering
  • Axle-fit servo mount - It looks like the chassis can be built 4-linked at front (stock is 3 link + panhard at front) and 4 link + chassis mounted steering servo = lots of bump steer so moving servo to axle stops it.
  • Axle guards/skids - Bit of bling, bit of protection, reduces axle clearance by a few mm
  • Alu motor mount and Alu Clamp Plate - Probably tighter tolerance than the cast alu and plastic pieces, should also be stiffer for higher power motors
  • Alu gear-shift fork - More precise shifting probably
  • Rear shock brace (chassis crossmember) - Stops chassis compressing/deforming as much
  • Alu belly skid plate - Smooth surface for sliding over rocks easier
  • Alu axle truss - Reinforcement, stops axle bending
  • Heavy duty diff locker - reinforced part for higher power motors
  • Alu link mounts (and panhard mount)- reinforced part for higher power motors

Most of the hop-ups are functional and probably more use with a racer as opposed to a crawler, apart from the belly plate - that'd be handy for pure crawler build
There's also a spur gear mount which eliminates the slipper clutch

Once they're on sale (at junfac.com) they usually describe them and explain the benefits too - might be worth checking there in case I'm wrong

Regarding the Driver doll, way too small

Afyer refreshing the page for over a month, 10 times daily... they are finally up and for sale.

I see lots of parts I'm probably going to pick up.

cheers....

so for me, built as a crawler, ill look for.....

steel pinion (would kit one be ok for crawler speeds?)

slipper ball bearing

rear shock brace (possibly)

driver figure

interesting about slipper elimination.......

Where are you seeing them? I saw one seller on eBay with 'em so far :(

I always replace kit pinions as soon as possible, so couldn't say - For light running a well-meshed alu one would probably be ok for a while but keep an eye on it - crawling puts a lot of strain on the drivetrain, especially when you're learning

The shock brace is a 50/50 - there's not a lot of mount sticking up above the brace plate, but then t's only $5 RRP
It basically replaces those two nuts in centre of pic with a length of alu rod (with hexes milled on the ends for the nut recesses in the shock mounts)

unless you mention in your build that the pinion is fairly accessible after building then ill look to get one asap 😃

I dunno how accessible it's going to be yet - I'm not even sure of the motor yet so might run it part-built first.
If I didn't have that hanging over me, I'd fit a steel pinion from the off (32DP 13t is stock)

Looking at the schematics it looks an absolute pig to get too once you get beyond installing the motor and gearbox - its bad enough on the Gmade R1 (needing to remove a few parts and fiddle about) within the cage, but the GOM has the added complications of the interior moulding too

There's 4 screws to get to in order to remove the mesh cover and the motor mount clamp - it doesn't look too bad on the view below, at least the motor comes out on a mount plate this time, the R1 was a mega-pig to work on

Edit:

All four motor-relevant screws are visible here;

That’s good to know, it wasn’t clear on the photo of the motor/gearcase on page 1whetr the split in the top cover was; if the motor plate can then slide out vertically that’s a big improvement in design

Yes. the motor mounts (off-centre) to a disc which then drops vertically into a guide at the front of the transmission

The disc is rotated to get the pinion/spur mesh right

@Twinset

Where did you order your CVA's from?

I was able to get a bunch of option parts on ebay so far. But they don't have the CVA's or driveshafts in stock anywhere else yet.

Thanks for all of the info initially. The post you did listing the specs for the vehicles in their promo video was very helpful.

Which option parts did you end up getting?

What are you powering your GOM with?  I'm still undecided.

Front and rear aluminum arms, Sway bar set, brass steering knuckle bushings,  Shock brace and spare tire mount.

These were the only things available on ebay when I ordered. I still need the motor mount CVA and driveshafts.. among others.

The rear arms I were only $23 from this seller. I have a feeling it was a mistake and he will cancel the order.

Nope, not mistake.  That's how much I paid and I should be getting it within a couple of days. (Confirmed shipped).

I should've bought the front arm.... totally forgot about that one.  I only bought the rear arms and sway bar.  The other pieces I want aren't available yet... and I'm going to take a wait and see approach to them.

The front one looks kind of funny in pictures.

But I figured why not make it all match.

Thanks for confirming the price. I was worried about getting a cancel email.

Most of the option parts are available thru Junfac now; http://www.junfac.com/category/gr01-gom/167/
The large alu motor mount is still 'coming soon', I've emailed 'em and asked when threy'll be available to order - Will update.

This as a starting point; http://www.rcmart.com/cheetah-sensored-with-3250kv105t2p-motor-combo-p-37105.html
3600kv was suggested as top end of fast for stock components when I asked GMade about motors so went a little slower as it won't see a lot of racing action, but I'm going to order the sway bars to see how they affect roll when crawling (curiosity more than anything)

Was that recommendation for 2S or 3S Lipos?  Everyone seems to be on 3S, and here I am still using 2S.  Maybe it's time I get some 3S batteries.
