Looking for options for a project nearer the end of the year, has to be a 225mm wheelbase for a shell I want but I don't want a Rear wheel drive oversteer chassis, would like a front wheel drive for a change.

Im lost when it comes to the M chassis from Tamiya, any help appreciated.

Correct me if I am wrong but you could also use the M-03, which shares its chassis with the FF-02, which you can add longer arms and driveshafts to get to touring car width if thats what you are after? (This is, if you cannot find a FF-02 chassis and just take the centre piece out).

Cool, looks like an M03 is what I'm after being adjustable wheelbase and FWD.

Tamiya uses a plastic extender piece in their M03 and M04 chassis to "make" them M03L and M04L.

M03 = 225mm wheelbase, front drive
M04 = 225mm wheelbase, rear drive

M03L = 239mm wheelbase, front drive
M04L = 239mm wheelbase, rear drive"

M03 =210mm

M03M = 225mm

M03L = 239mm

FF02 = 257mm which uses it's own unique spacer. I think there is another wheelbase aswell 😊

You could use a M05 depending on what track width you want?

Also take into account the M03 isn't very forgiving for low bonnet cars, whereas the M05 is.

Ha I didn't think about track width, I would want the HPI BMW 2002 Turbo shell to fit at 225m wheelbase.

looking at second hand M03's on Ebay I'm not sure if they would come in either of those 3 wheelbases but I'm sure I could buy the required spacer to lengthen the 210mm or just remove a piece if it came in 239mm.

Actually I could also consider a M03L at 239 and remove the piece too.. gives me a wider choice to buy a chassis now.

My M06 Alfa Sprint came with the needed pieces to change the wheelbase, so other M-chassis cars may have those pieces in the kit as well?

Great news, not sure if an old second hand M03 would come with the bits n bobs left in the box though.... failing that I'll contact you Mr Fisher lol ;p

If I have it right, it is F2 and F5 from F sprue 51328.

info taken from the M03M Suzuki Swift manual.

Not sure how the M03 will be with the BMW shell given the servo support height.

I have the shell but on an M04. I'd try it on my M03 front end but they are in two different locations!

Could you put a shout out to @crashcramer? He has that shell and every M chassis!

The M05 is able to swap between all 3 wheelbase settings without additional parts like the M03

Really how so?

Would the M05 be better for parts and hop up availability with it being newer than the M03?

Is the M05 front wheel drive like the M03?

If the HPI BMW 2002 shell fits better then I'm interested.

The manual shows that rather than adjusting the length of the chassis with spacers, the chassis has a fixed length with three different mounting locations for the rear bulkheads which correspond with the three different wheelbase options, effectively moving the rear wheels forwards or backwards relative to the rest of the chassis.

Yeah it's a bit of a head scratcher without the manual, especially as the friction shocks run spacers depending on which setting you use.

I just got my M05 and you turn the lower rear subframe around, reverse the lower control arms, and put the shock mount back one setting.

There are more hop ups as they are newer and share some bits with the M06. 😊

If you decide to go with FWD check out the M05R it has some really nice parts including a geared differential. If your interested I can post a few pics of the rolling chassis set at the 225mm wheelbase.

Yes please Dougo, this thread will be reference point when I decide to get one of these 225mm wheelbase cars :)

I was looking at the M-05 V2R before I got my bargain basement M-05. There is so much in that kit (#84424) for the money, and some places have them quite cheap too.
