Will a stock SS take a normal 27 turn motor? I'm looking at upgrading it. I saw the monster 550 motor that just came out and if that would fit then it would be awesome in the SS. I love the vintage look and all but I want to make my Bug like a real racer that will take to the hills without a second thought of getting stuck.

I got this from Mud4fun and it works quite nicely...Kyosho Mayhem motor works great..Motor studs in the tranny need to be ground down and small hole drilled where they where ..attach with flat screws..If you check my trades room you can see how this was done with a tranny extender...Pleiku11b jerry

I'm not going to modify my tranny. I should have stated that in the first place.

A plain old Sport Tuned is okay. Plenty of speed etc.

I had to grind out my motor housing to cram a sport tuned in [?] to my knowlege theyre just that irritating little bit to fat where theyre' formed at the pinion end.

The bodies on most motors seem to fit fine, its just where they are pressed to form thre pinion end at the top of the can they bulge out. I've even resorted to grinding the bulge down with a dremel, it worked with the help of a vice but getting the motor out again may be impossible [:I]

I ran a technigold in my rough rider years ago without any problems(with a homemade 8 cell). The only downside I remember is the brass u-joints didn't last long. Replaced them with the black ones from a super champ.

Whats the difference between the black ones from the super champ and regular brass ones?[?]

The Black superchamp universals are made of steel instead of brass.

asa follow up to merv's comment, a technigold will slide into the gear case. you will have to remove the motor tabs and drill a hole so you can use a screw to secure the motor in there. I tried it on mine but decided it was much too fast.

Strange, I had no problems at all at getting a ST motor in there, or removing it. Maybe they changed the can ever so slightly over the years.
