First I want to say a big thank you to this forum.
My RC interest just woke up again this summer from a 25 years sleep when a friend showed me the 2010 re-release of the Sand Scorcher. A car I really wanted back in the 80s but never got the chance to own.
It was incredible fun to build and paint and when googling I got tons of tips and info from this forum.

For the Scorcher I added metal bumpers, alloy rims, stainless screws and a Sport Tuned motor. The electrics is a Tamiya Fine spec system with the 6.6v Li fe battery.
Painted all with Tamiya TS spray.

Im no model builder so its not perfect and the Tamiya clear coat reacted with the rear-lights paint and everything became a mess.
Managed to re-paint and finish and wanted to be as close to the box art as I could.

Looks fantastic to me, I'd be proud of that :)

Where did you get your metal bumpers from? I have an unbuilt Scorcher waiting for the right time, and those box art bumpers are on my shopping list

Cool, thanks for the links. I'd seen that seller, so great to have confirmation that the bumpers are good :)

Did you use tape for the panel lines, or a steady hand and a fine brush?

The body panel lines are paint with a fine brush. The lines on the surface are Kyosho micron tape, then clear coated over...just like I did in the 80s. :)

Thanks guys!

Teamonster: Easier than I thought as I used the technique to cut out the masking with a sharp knife. (Also a tip I got from this forum.)

My Scorcher stands next to my four Kyosho cars that I am restoring now.

I also got a Lexan body and an extra set of wheels for heavy racing.

Thanks for the reply, I had some paint bleed when I did mine, but put it down to the masking tape used. Seriously considering buying another one now🤔

TeaMonster: Maybe you can save it?

I also got bleeding and almost always get that, never get that exact knife sharp edge, dunno if to use liquid masking to get that cos the Tamiya masking tape is hard to get perfect imo.

Look closely on my car, like on the roof, there you will see a tiny black line between the blue and white paint.

That is Kyosho 0.4 micron tape that I trace the color borders with. Then I clear coat over it to seal it.

This not only give you a nice even line between the colors but it also gives you a nice enhancement of the lines.

It was on a car I regretfully sold a while ago, I recovered it by hand painting, as the bleed was on the bonnet portions. Seeing your car is persuading me to get another one and I am looking at not making the same mistakes. As you said the black lines really do enhance the overall look of the car.

I'm with you @TeaMonster, although I haven't owned one beforw and SRB's were before my time. But I posted a thread a few months back about what 2wd I should get and the Sand Scorcher came u so I did some research and I've wanted one since. I bought the Ultima RB6.6 instead which was the sensible choice but still want one of these, and more simce seeing this one...christmas is coming up...

Buying christmas presents to oneself is always awesome.

My Scorcher was a birthday gift to myself. :)

The un-written rule's of buying a Scorcher is if you think about it!......then you HAVE to buy one;),  bit of friendly advice if you plan on using it (and you should!) And you want to save that brilliant workmanship keep your eyes peeled for the rear ball diff set transform's the SRB makes it so much more stable:)!

Thanks for the tip.

Ive been holding my finger on the buy button on the ball diff....though from earlier experiences I am a bit allergic towards ball diffs.

I wish there was a gear diff for the Scorcher.

Will try to race some and maybe later try ball diffs again. ;)

First race was with the Life battery straight from the factory, almost empty and still the Scorcher lifted the front.

After some minute the ESC cut off, so time for a full charge and test again. :)

As Ive red on this forum, god the steering is bad...

The ball diff is tempting....but also to put the steering servo in the front to get a more direct steering.
