..why didn't Tamiya ever make a RC model of this legend offroader?

bj42.jpg

I remember my neighbour when I was a little kid had one, don't know what brand it was, but it was quite big (about 1/12 - hey, we were only kids) and could be driven outdoors which I though was super cool. It was blue with a white roof and some hard plastic wheels (no rubber) and not that fast at all, still it was slick for a young brat back then (early 80's).

When thinking back on it, and after getting into Tamiya some years after that, I see that the old thing wasn't really a good model when talking about details or even craftmanship. It was only a toy, although on the borderline to more ambitious RC cars back then, we were too young to get the more expensive models produced by manufactorers such as Tamiya.

Still, the old LandCruiser BJ42 is a classic that has been around since the break of dawn and it's a collectors item for 1:1 offroad enthusiast today - I wish Tamiya had made one back in the days...mmm...maybe as a 3spd?

May we exaggerate a little bit?

Why did they never make the "Iron Pig" Fj 55 Landcruiser:

I always loved this body style, and still love it today. Like I love the Willys MB / Ford GPW, or the Wartime Dodge W-series with it's different superstructures. I am harder to inspire by the new 4x4's, they do not meet my taste very often.

Especially the new 215+ km/h wanna be 4x4 and street racers at the same time... [8)] All marketing ****...

Yes, you are right.

I lived some years in Venezuela (Dad worked there) and we had 2 LandCruiser BJ42. It was the first car I was allowed to "drive". I was seven years old and my dad let me sit on his knees and steer (he did thorttle and brakes of course). The thing I liked the most was off-roading after a day at the beach (near Gran Savana). I still get a bad conscience when thinking about all the little trees I ran over [}:)]

Boy, what would I give for a 3speeder with that body[|)]

By the way, I have an old Nico Land Cruiser (without roof).

I would love to see old LandCruiser, Land Rover, Range Rover (from about 10 years ago), Isuzu Trooper (1980's), Jeep Cherokee/Wagoneer (with optional woodgrain), etc.. as hard plastic tamiya shells on a nice 4x4 chassis. Those would be great.

Not as interested in the Porsche, Lexus and BMW trucks.

Found a pic of the car in TC member doubleM showroom - well the old body I was talking about anyway - think it on a Tamiya chassis:

I love the original car and am thinking about getting one (1:1).

The pictured body origins from a Joustra toy RC-car. They can be found on eBay from time to time. Joustra is (was?) a French toy company which made a few quite nice large scale toy RC-cars, including a very nice 1/10 scale Porsche 917. Not up to Tamiya standard on body quality and very crude chassises of course.

Here's a link to a French collector's site with pics of a Joustra Landcruiser with the original chassis (scroll down the page!):

I'd love having a Land Rover Defender 90 in back, 1/10th scale - to match my mum's 'real' Land Rover. [8D] This seems like a good opportunity to recycle the XC chassis... [;)]

Too bad there aren't many people around of my age that share my opinion that I like a Land Rover Series 1 more than a BMW X5... [:(]
