Hi There,

I have had two really ropey Strikers lying around for ages, however, never had the inclination to work on them.

I purchased them from a club member a few years ago, and having realised how terrible they are to drive, I was not motivated to do anything with them. I used to be an Avante man in the late 80s, and I wouldn't have given it a look at all..

About a week ago, on a rainy August day, I decided to strip them both down in order to make one 'perfect' model.

I like watching these kind of Striker restorations/builds. What are you going to do with the left-over bits when you're done? I've been thinking about looking for a broken Striker chassis to experiment on.

Atleast the wheels on the second one look in pretty good nick, you can always get a new set from the GH2 as it's been re-released recently (I bought the kit just for the wheels to rob for my Striker restoration) and now I'm nearly finished a Sonic Fighter restoration too. Let me know if you need any parts but you look fine there, sorry Vagabond, I don't have a chassis ;p

Hey Jason, Thanks for the messages. I'd be very excited to see your Sonic Fighter - although the same car, it looks way way better. Do you need a new wing as I have one from a bulk lot of bits I bought?
I've sanded and painted the wheels from the second one, but nothing beats the original white finish!

Hey Vagabond. I was thinking about making a knock about car, but the chassis is such a poor design and has so many weak points. I may end up with a complete car in bits actually...I'll let you know. Where in Surrey are you based? I'm near Windsor..

Sansoora I fell for the Striker the moment I first saw it... which was only last year... I never knew it existed before that as I'd stopped RC'ing back when it was first released I guess.

Then later on last year I saw the Sonic Fighter and it was love at first sight all over again but even more so lol!

thanks for the offer but I have some wings already... I've just today received new tyres for my wheels... they were meant for the SF but tonight I've been messing about with both cars and these wheels and tyres actually suit my Striker better... what wheels and tyres you ask?

i'll update both my Striker and Sonic Fighter threads tomorrow night and let you know to see them.

I'm watching yours with great interest, not many like these cars but that's what I like about them in a way, and so totally agree they handle rubbish, bump steer everywhere, impossible to get decent dampening, I couldn't believe how my Striker drove after I'd spent so much time on him lol ( he wasn't that bad but by modern standards... Aiya!)

There is an original Striker Decal set on Ebay UK right now for £45 if you are feeling rich.

It's be irresponsible and morally wrong to bring brushless up :) the chassis is so Cool, but so very poor! It wouldn't last.

I'm nearing the end and will send some updates tonight..

Yeah don't worry, I will keep them brushed for sure..... I have an old set of wheels and tyres for when I run them (not often) and even then I am ultra careful not to endanger them in any roll over action.

Here's my two golden oldies... one is more golden than the other ;p

Wow.

They are gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing.

I never would have expected the colours to look so well on them. The gold Striker decals make so much more sense having seen these pics.

The Sonic Fighter, again incredible, is barely recognisable. It looks like a combination between an Academy Road Runner and a Falcon.

What a fantastic job.

Are they complete with all electrics?

Hello,

I hope you are all well.

Here are a couple of update photos.

Now, remember that this is a fairly light project, trying to make do with as many of the original parts as is possible.

I used a paint called 'Plastikote' and not original Tamiya paints.

Your Striker is coming along nicely, the contrast between that brilliant white and the blue looks superb! I've never seen one in brilliant bright white like that, only the old off white dated yellow type so I hadn't realised how good it can look I stock colours.

Great job so far, even the blue shocks and silver springs look amazing too!

Cant wait to see the rest of the build, you definitely need original decals now in the original colour ;)

My two cars are both fully fitted with electrics to run, 2.4g radios and modern ESC's with brushed motors ( 21turn in Sonic Fighter and Sport Tuned in Striker)

I have the Pragustore aluminium rear hub adapter on the Striker and another set on the way for the SF, these come in a nice blue colour and would suit your car too - not a perfect colour match but...

My striker in my showroom is in tamiya ts26 brilliant white

With added clear gloss top coat that makes it 'pop's further!

It seems the striker is having a mini resurgence☺

Taffer can you chuck a couple pictures of it up here too?

For a car that supposedly looks awful it's rather pleasing to see it coming back into fashion here.

Yes the clearcoat top layer gives a nice shine even if it won't do much to protect the paint from concrete rash ;)

i have a new build (from parts) to complete for the shelf as well

Taffer, what a beautiful example. This is where I wanted to be with mine, but I can't the paint as 'flat' and smooth as yours....plus I don't have any decals! What do you have under the bonnet??

Here are some update photos:

1. Electrics in progress - trying to with originals seeing that so much of the rest of it isn't

2/3. The really wheels before being sanded, primed and painted the same colour as the body

4. The electrics are in!

5. I had some Schumacher tyres kicking about so opted for these

6. Just the driver body and head need painting now
