Cesco 187 Posted September 3, 2017 I'm looking for some advise for a brusless ESC / motor combo for a Tamiya Wild Willy 2 / WR02. I normaly use a Hobbywing 1060 ESC with a silver can / Torque Tuned / Super Tuned motor. What I'm after is a combo that is bashproof, waterproof, keeps the caracter of the WR02 (wheelie machine), but may be faster without getting uncontrolable fast. Use it with either the 18T or 20T pinion. And for batteries I will be using 2S Lipo, but I guess as others might also be looking for a brushless set for their WR02, a ESC that can handle 2S Lipo and NiHM will be the best thing. Cost wise, a price up to around 75 euro/ 90 dollar/ 70 pound max. The cheaper but remaining quality the better. Basicly, it would be nice not just for me, but also for others to find a brushles alternative, cost wise, for the usual costs of a Tamiya ESC or Hobbyking 1060 ESC combined with a brushed silver can / Torque Tuned / Super Tuned motor. So, what are your recommendations?
Snappy1 966 Posted September 3, 2017 I know you want brushless, but I would suggest a 1060 esc, silvercan and a 3 cell
Backlash 481 Posted September 3, 2017 I have a 9 turn (4300Kv) EZRun on 2S LiPo in my Wild Willy 2.. (Mine is actually a Yeah Racing setup, but its just a rebadged HobbyWing unit.) Its silly fast, but not uncontrollable.. It will "wheelie" quite easily even when moving at a reasonable speed.. It had a Sports Tuned in it when I bought it, but I found that to be boring (too slow)... The 9 turn brushless definitely puts a smile on my face when running it.. EDIT: EZRun setup, Not Quicrun.. Cesco 187 Posted September 3, 2017 Backlash, any idea of the part number(s) of that Yeah Racing setup? Trying to find one on the Yeah Racing website.

I bought it many years ago to use in my 1/12 Hotbodies Cyclone and its probably obsolete now.... It had been sitting around for a year or so after that, and I finally put it to use in my Wild Willy 2.. I think that this is the one.. http://www.rcmart.com/yeah-racing-bm0012v2-ultimate-brainpower-version-sensorless-brushless-motor-free-tornado-p-28932.html
berman 5315 Posted September 5, 2017 Start with this and a 20t steel pinion: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TORO-12T-Brushless-Motor-3in1-COMBO-leopard-60A-ESC-RC-CAR-TRUCK-1-10-3300KV-/221254602578?epid=1431483420&hash=item3383cd4f52:g:Fg8AAMXQMmJRPrHH Go up in KV (same combo) if you want more speed. Cesco 187 Posted September 6, 2017 Thanks Backlash and berman. I will look into both of them. I also got some more recommendations from someone on YouTube (Pete Wylie) who drives several WR02 / GF01 / Lunchbox and some other Tamiyas. As well as some recomendations of some others. DickyBoy 0 Posted April 25, 2018 Just picking up on this old thread. Am currently in a similar situation and it's been a while since i had a RC car, by the sounds of things the tech has seriously evolved. I have a fully bullraced Wild Willy 2 with Alu shocks. Just purchsed a Tamiya TBLE-02S (ESC) and would like recomendations on batteries and motors. Like the idea of brushless but unsure if i go for a costly Tamiya or branded aftermarket, or do i just get a Tamiya Sport Tuned motor. Regarding batteries would like decent power with long longevity, not keen on LiPo for this build. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
LeftyAl 164 Posted April 26, 2018 I have a fanless Trackstar 70A ESC and a 2600kV motor with 20T pinion in my boy's WW2. It has plenty of go to get you in trouble if you corner too quick Snappy's comment on a Quicrun 1060, silver can and 3S lipo has merit. I tried this out on a B4 clone buggy and was pretty surprised with how much speed it could get, whilst being easy to drive. I did notice a rather strong motor smell about half way thru a 3600 battery, so shut it down for the night. I think a good compromise is a low kV brushless motor and a 3S battery when you want that extra burst of speed.
