I've a 2nd gen bandit TransAm body, that requires a chassis, and I think it would be a disservice on anything other than a drift chassis.

I presumed (wrongly!) that there would only be a couple to choose from....WRONG 🙄

I'm not brand loyal, so any make will do, needs to be 200mm wheel base though (or close enough?)

Any ideas?

Or get the ARR version for just under £70 just add a radio.. bearings through your and oil filled shocks with its 4WD

Even I'm tempted now!!!

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/1-10-hobbykingr-mission-d-4wd-gtr-drift-car-arr.html

If you only want to sit a shell on it and maybe drift a little for fun this HK car looks good.

I once bought a Sakura D3 to drift, spent a fortune on it and used it 5 times then the Drift novelty wore off and I sold it... wish I'd bought one of these instead now.

I have no idea what's good or bad with on road thingy me bobs!

I'm not sure how much use it would get tbh, as you need a fairly flat surface to run them,so maybe not that much, but would need a 1060 esc to run 3s.....🙄

I'm guessing the difference between a drift chassis and a normal chassis is the increased steering angle?

That and counter steer ( rear wheels spin slightly quicker than the front to encourage tail out fun.)

I think my old D3 came with either a Counter Steer of 1.56 or 2.14..... so for 1 revolution of the front wheel the rear wheel would complete 1.56 or 2.14 revolutions ( all adjustable with different teethe pulleys and belts etc)

RWD drifters certainly feel more realistic to drive but they are much harder to keep off the curbs on the street for a beginner. There handling on rubber tyres can leave a little to be desired as well. But if you want a realistic chassis fit the body (being rwd in real life) then they are probably the only option.

if you don’t want belt drive consider the basic yokomo rd-2 with gyro.

This could be an issue, although for realism, I could fit a mustang body! 🙄😂

I'm guessing I'll be better going for a 4wd, I can see the novelty wearing thin really quick if I can't drive the thing.

I'm open to all options, searching eBay, brings up all kinds of cars, most I don't think are drift chassis.

I guess I'm promoting the Sakura D4 AWD not just for the price, but also:

  • Countersteer / overdriven rear axle (as Jason describes)
  • Large steering angle
  • Steep king pin inclination (standard, was a mod people did a few years ago)
  • Already set up with soft front suspension and stiff rear suspension
  • Comes with a starter set of "tires" and wheels
  • Full FRP chassis construction
  • Decent hardware standard -- hex drive machine screws, ball bearings, turnbuckles, threaded dampers, some splashes of aluminum bling

The only hopup recommended to start is a front one-way to make simulated handbrake turns more easily.

Not sure it'll be cheap after import duties , shipping etc, but just had a look on the hobbyking website :-

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/3racing-sakura-d4-rwd-1-10-drift-car-kit.html

£81 with free delivery! 👍

But it's 2wd 🤔

Good luck with that. I tried to order one that showed to be In Stock. After 2 weeks of waiting, they sent me an email telling me that it was backordered and didn't know when it would ship. I had the option to continue waiting or cancel the order. After 2 more months of waiting, I cancelled and got a refund.

I doubt the $130 would include free shipping to the UK  (sorry, I should have stated my location in the original post), but even if it did, import duty and other taxes would add another $45 , from past experience I would expect to be looking at $200 landed.

Found eBay has it listed

Also, which I'll keep an eye on 😁

That's not good!

That mission would be £75 delivered, (if it ever got delivered!?!).

Having a chassis to look for, on social media , on eBay etc helps, ive some in my watch list, I'll see how it goes 🙄

Haha I wondered when I saw this thread active most of the day! I can't comment about drift cars, but this onroad thing is intriguing eh

Looks killer that second one, saves building it too... can someone confirm this D4 can be made into a normal touring car, as in, non drifter, so the 4 wheels spin at the same speed if you don't like drifting?

( Don't worry Wooders, I'm not after that car lol)

Chaps, I'm a big fan of Hobbyking but not the international warehouse shipped to UK options. You are pretty much certain to get hit with import and admin charges as they fully declare their waybills.

Tamico do a great price on all the 3 Racing Sakura D3 & D4 cars for EU borne purchases. https://tamico.de/Drift-RC-Cars_1 plus the spares and hopups.

But@Jason1145 have you cracked open the TT02D Type S yet as that is a brilliant drift car. Just set the diffs, drop the suspension and pop the Tamiya drift tyres on.

I though it was shipped from a warehouse in Europe, still import, but less/no duty!

Is the TT02D an option? Looked more touring than drift.

The Hobbyking options only show as global for me.

The TT02D Type S is a rather special variant but the normal 02D is a bit meh. Jason bought mine off me but I think it's still boxed up.

Who sells the TT02D Type S? I couldn't find one in stock anywhere the last time I looked.

Possibly nowhere now, they were about £120 and were higher specced than a TT02 Type S + included the drift tyres.

eBay maybe?
