The best advice I can give you is to take a wee pop down to ARCC and have a talk to the drift boys down there.

Completely forgot about those boys!

I was meant to get a shot of one of theirs at ignition , but ran out of time.

Keep meaning to get down for race night too!!

Tamico do a great price on all the 3 Racing Sakura D3 & D4 cars for EU borne purchases. https://tamico.de/Drift-RC-Cars_1 plus the spares and hopups.

But@Jason1145 have you cracked open the TT02D Type S yet as that is a brilliant drift car. Just set the diffs, drop the suspension and pop the Tamiya drift tyres on.

Not yet... I know it's Drift spec but does that just mean it comes with the drift tyres, I'm planning on using it as a regular touring/rally car when I get round to it.

A 50/50 drift car like a TT01 or TT02 quickly gets boring.  If you choose to get a 50/50 car just put drift tires on any touring car you have and be done with it.  Drifting isn't fun until you get into the countersteer chassis.

It has full adjustability with the composite shock towers and turnbuckle set. It also has the upgraded arms and rear toe in. Diffs are fully adjustable depending on amount of AW grease used. Instructions have key drift settings. The drift wheels and tyres are good plus I never opened them.

Due to shaft drive it's very efficient and easy to bias. Currently it was built with diff bias to support the rally build but you can rejig it.

Tamiya's finest drift chassis on paper imo but it died a death along with the drift scene.

This. Although same could be said for rwd vs c/s.

May just be me but I don't recall the VDF being available in the UK and import was silly money. I probably should have put the value for money and UK caveat in there lol.

I would say it's pretty dead in the UK, I don't just mean at RC level either but 1:1.

Then to be fair track based RC is not faring well at all here in general, neither are the model shops.

Looks killer that second one, saves building it too... can someone confirm this D4 can be made into a normal touring car, as in, non drifter, so the 4 wheels spin at the same speed if you don't like drifting?

Yes, it's possible, but you have to pick up a second gear diff (another $20 USD), Sakura D3 rear belt (another $5 USD), and another 16T pulley (plastic sprue or aluminum pulley - either).  Then both ends will be driven with the same pulley/gear diff ratios.  At that point you have what looks like a modern TA04.

You will also want to adjust the front and rear shock positions and change the rear springs from 31 mm length springs to 25 mm length springs to get some usable droop in the rear.

The front king pin inclination, which works well for drifting, is aggressive for a regular touring car.  I mounted the ball connector at the outside position instead of the inside position, and found some longer turnbuckles in my scrap box.

It can be done, but it takes a few changes.

Guess I'm late to the party, I'm just finding venues with RC drift tracks!!(and has an F1 and carpet off road track too though) and the 1:1 drift seemed to go down well at a few race venues I've been too.

Glasgow RC club managed to get another 10+ members after the demo at the Ignition festival, not massive numbers i know, but interest is still there, just alot of kids didnt know these types of RC exist! and Otley Modelsport have just moved to a larger premises.

What's the difference between a TT01 and the drift spec?

Is this something similar? (I know it's not tamiya, but looks a close copy?)

Don't know really. But if I want to play around drifting I stick a set of slicks on my tt01 with the one way front diff and when I get bored switch again. Lol.. nothing fancy

I'll be at the Glasgow club this Wednesday, fingers crossed! They double booked us last week (well, someone offered more cash) but there was a muscle car meet at the pub near by, still a good night for me! 😁

No worries mate, the Ayr club runs pretty much every class you can think of TC's, buggies/off road, minis, f1 and drift. They're also talking about building a crawler course. The good thing is they run pretty much every night with the main night being on a Monday. I tend to go down Monday and Wednesday, it's a bit of a trek from Paisley but it's worth it.

The muscle car meet sounds awesome, I hope you got loads of pictures.

They were saying something about that a Ignition, travelling down to Carlisle for an event?

I thought it was open for a long weekend, Fri - Mon! They said they would have opened up for us to run when we got double booked last wed, if they'd had more notice.

With £6 postage or an option to pick up from a UK warehouse, I'm kind of hoping I won't get hit! Although it is with parcelfarce, who, with past experience, the fees have been more expensive than the duty and vat!
