Hi all,

Happy new year everyone!id="green">

I'm looking for a TC past topic about the super champ spike rear tires (difference between the old ones and the new ones re-released with a hole). I can't find it![:(]

Well, the old ones seems to be harder and much stronger than the new ones. I've both since some years ago and the new ones are also perished, the old ones are good.

My questions are:

-Is it a special rubber compound (harder) used by Tamiya for the super Champ rear tires? The weight is so heavy on the rear of this car!

-The new hornet re-release tires are soft with a bad quality??? No much time to live?[8)]

Thank's for your help,[;)]

François.

Its seem similar to me, could it be that your old ones are hardened (aged)?

Also please notice that the ones that came with the SC (at least with the first generations) didn't have a hole, so were more baloony and seem more hard, but its not the rubber, its just the pressure build up which cannot happen in the Hornet ones.

Cheers

I agree with you Poulpit,

I have two shelf SC's and one has the tires with a hole and one has the air tight tires. The air tight ones ride much higher and to me look more realistic. However the ones with a hole likely offer better traction having more tread in contact with the ground. Not much of a worry on shelf cars however.[;)]

Thank's Cul-tech!

I'm sure there are two types of these tyres. For the re-release, with a hole, the quality is less good, they dry faster and they are too soft![;)]

If you wanted the newer tires to be more like the originals you could plug the hole. Maybe cut a small square of tire rubber from a wornout tire and super glue it to the inside of the tire over the hole. I am sure this would stay in place, i have glued tires and never had them seperate. then just assemble the tires as normal.

just an idea[:)]

or use a rubber patch kit for a bicycle inner tube.

I just got my two sets of re-release tires. Honestly you would be hard put to tell the difference. they feel the same softness. th eonly difference I see is that the vintage ones have that white mold release residue on them.

jr-rc on ebay is selling the tires all by themselves which I'm guessing means eventualy you will be able to buy them from tamiya usa.
