SOLD – Tamiya F103 / F104 hybrid

OK guys, this one started life as a F103 Ferrari that I bought with broken front wing and a shell fit only or the bin.

It received a full strip down and clean, and was rebuilt with all the following ..

New F104 wheels and rubber tyres
New adjustable gear case parts
New carbon drive shaft
New alloy diff parts
New diff rings
New Tamiya long carbon fibre top deck
New D parts for the battery holders
New hop-up alloy body posts
New friction damper
New 3 Racing alloy shock absorber/damper
New RD Kingpin set
New reinforced front axles

New 0.4Mod RM spur gear

New shell painted metallic white with Tamiya 'flag' draped over the top

New front and rear wings

Also has a new Hobbyking servo that is good enough for fun running.

Hi Percy

I just bought this off Prescient at the same sale price as it wasn't his thing and I wanted to ask about the origins... what is it again?

I'm trying to look at putting bigger 0.6mod gears in to make use of my pinions to replace the very fine smaller 0.4Mod spur currently on this car.

If I want to buy a spur gear in 0.6Mod what part number would fit this chassis?

I've taken the rear end apart and can see the current 0.4Mod spur has silver balls in it.

At first I thought it this car was a F103 with F104 wheels until I started looking a bit online, but the one F103 I looked at online (58235 McLaren MP4/13)  doesn't have an upper deck from the servo towards the rear shock and yet this one does?

Then I looked at F104's but I think this has F103 front arms... needless to say I'm confused now :(

Any help is appreciated @Percymon or anyone else in the F1 know.

It started out as a  F103 Ferrari  412T1, but was completely stripped and rebuilt with a load of mix n match parts - I've looked back through some order history with RCMart and found the following if it helps..

TRG (#TRG3001B) 1/10 F1 Body SW-ON For F103

Shimizu Racing (#PS-0548) Rear Racing Slick Tire (R3) for Tamiya F103
Shimizu Racing (#PS-0547) Front Racing Slick Tire (F3) for Tamiya F103

Tamiya (#51348) F103 Spoke Wheel Set

So appears the wheels and tyres are F103 items (I'm not convinced but thats what the order history suggests; maybe i bought some other F104 wheels elsewhere ?) - I remember it was a pain to sort the ball diff because the original wheels had the diff inboard

From recollection the rear motor area was a mix of parts to get the right offset for the rear wing - possibly original rear facing plate with F103GT sides and front plate ?

I dont recall doing a build thread for this one and its been several years since it was assembled.  There may be some thread about it, but more fact finding than actual build story.  I seem to remember Daves959 (?) in the USA sharing some info

So it looks like the 0.4Mod spur gear currently on is the 104t from part number 53104.

Thank you Percy, I might just try the F103GT 70t 0.6Mod spur to see if it'll fit on, that's part number 51230

This will only be necessary if these 0.4mod gears don't last well.
