Having been pondering the Aqroshot and looking at pictures, I've now cooled on it a bit.

Something about it just looks a tad odd to my eyes. Not the shell, I mean something about the stance, wheelbase or track width doesn't look quite right.

Of course it could just be the pictures and angles I was looking at.

So I had a look for the Stadium Thunder/Blitzer. Of the two I prefer the look of the Thunder. But it's about £30 more expensive than the Aqroshot.

Also considered the Nissan Titan and Sand Shaker but think they were dearer still.

As it's just for a basher I don't want to spend a huge amount.

Hmmm...decisions...decisions...

I reckon the stance thing is the little street tyres they put on it. Proper knobbles like the Schumacher ones are about 15mm bigger diameter. Would look loads better. Worth considering that someone was looking for an aqroshot/ vajra shell a while back and they were hard to find so if you don't like it you'll probably get good money towards a different shell by selling it.

I do think the dt02 Titan would make a fine basher. The SCT body shape makes a big wide force field around the actual car absorbing a lot of damage that would otherwise go straight to the car itself. It's also small enough that a Lunchbox could probably use it as a ramp.

Too bad they aren't 4wd or I'd have my SCT I want right there...

The stock wheel and tyre combo doesn't do it any favours. The tyre diameter is too small, the front and rear offsets are different making the front track wider than the rear, and the rear rims are wider than the tyres, giving them an odd stretched look.

Don't let that put you off though. Ditch the stock combo in favour of a Mad Bull wheel and tyre set, and everything looks right again.

If I plumped for the Aqroshot, other than Mad Bull wheels and tyres, what tyres go straight on the kit wheels (without being weirdly stretched)?

Running would likely be a mix of pavement, grass and gravel. No racing so hard wearing is more important than ultimate grip.

I was thinking of Pro-line Edge at the front. With possibly Schumacher Vee 4 blue at the rear.

Or Schumacher all round with Vee 2 at the front and the Vee 4 at the back.

Still not decided which way to go.

Just lately I started considering the Blitzer Beetle a bit more.

I've never really been a huge fan of that shell, other than on a Monster Beetle. But because it's different to a truck, it's starting to grow on me a bit. And with it not being my favourite I wouldn't mind so much about not keeping it nice.

But then they are pricey compared to the Aqroshot.

My Blitzer Beetle happily runs on a 12T brushed modified motor with a 3s lipo or 5700kv Brushless with 2s. Haven't broken it yet

You are paying for the hard body and vintage chassis really. No real downsides bar a slightly fragile body. However unlike the Aqroshot, there are no real mods whereas the DT03 can be well modded/hopped up.

I have both a DT03T and a Blitzer Beetle. The Blitzer Beetle with a 13.5t brushless and a lexan Parma body wheelies easily. Both cars have the same wheels and tyres. The DT03T doesn't wheelie as much as it's a longer chassis and has more weight with the alu parts etc. and as a consequence handles much better than the blitzer - see build thread here:

Thanks, I remember reading your build thread in the past. Nice looking Aqroshot there, and very handy that you've listed the parts used.

I don't think I'd want to be getting all the alloy parts though.

Are any of the upgrades necessary, or just nice to have?

The front and rear lower wishbone arms are probably not worth bothering.

The GPM steering arms (DT3160ST) are nice and chunky (they use the std. kit ball ends.)

Also the suspension mounts(GPM DT3027, DT3030,DT3028) and the chassis braces front (GPM DT3008) and rear (Tamiya 54566) beef it up a worth while amount. Along with the Tamiya Metal axle parts (9804237,9805551 & 50823) Also the servo mount DT3024.

Also the C-hubs (GPM DT3019) are probably a good idea.

The anti roll bars seem to make little difference (i'm only bashing)

I have an aqroshot with all the tamiya upgrades basically i run a castle 5700kv combo. I would definitely recommend the steel pinion 17t or 19t, the aluminum servo mount. I would also get the  universals w/drivecups along with aluminum hubs for front and rear w/ aluminum hexes

If you do get a Tamiya basher like a DT03 Aqroshot then it is very easy to spend more than a brushless Stampede 4x4, Slash 4x4, Associated RC10T or some of the better brand brushless 1:10/1:8 RTR monster trucks etc etc on the hop-ups and you still wouldn't necessarily have a comparrable vehicle.

Some of the vintage kits are a nice choice as the nostalgia element gives a different dynamic and focus. The falcon chassis (stadium blitzer/thunder/ & blitzer beetle) or even top force are solid options.

For the Aqroshot:

Wheels and tyres are £35-£70+ off the bat depending what you go for. Then servos, radio and electronics comparable to some of the RTR brushless systems can be £200-£300.

All the mods like suspension, turnbuckles, stabiliser arms, shock towers etc are another £50-£150+ depending how far you go. Even consideration for paint (£10-£20) all adds up.

Totally different type of enjoyment in modding and building though and notwithstanding I would still pick the Tamiya but it's the sad reality of it.

Yeah I'm not really looking for it to be comparable to a Slash or RC10T.

It's unlikely it would get any hop ups at all, unless they are needed to make it run properly.

It's just for something to run with my boys that is fairly inexpensive, that I won't mind getting bashed about.

Something fairly current where parts are easily available should I need any.

I have swung back to the Aqroshot now. With the price of it at Tamico I could get the kit and better tyres and paint for about the same money as the Stadium Blitzer/Thunder.

What's the typical delivery time for Tamico to the UK?

Tamico....Tamico are epic. They ship by DHL then UK Mail (DHL) in the UK. Once it logs on the UK Mail system you get text notifications etc.

Quickest c 48 hours order to door, slowest 4 working days the week before Christmas.

So if I order tomorrow it might get to me Monday or Tuesday. That's pretty cool.

Sadly they don't have the tyres I'd want so I can't make the most of the shipping.

I got my Suzuki Swift 2 days after ordering it, my Aqroshot 3 days, but then I did order it in the evening.

I ordered my M03M Swift from Tamico Thursday night, shipped out Friday am - arrived UK Monday and delivered Tuesday am.

Their stock indicator seems to be pretty accurate - much better than other supplies who don;t indicate at all and buyers assume its available asap.

If you order early or tonight they should dispatch tomorrow. It depends when collection is and whether it makes it to the hub on time. If DHL are on form then they will ship over the weekend so prob to you Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. It can vary with weekends.

My Aqroshot build for a buddy who never used it.  Sporting Dirt Hawgs.  I had it up on the Trades forum here but I sold it last week to a co-worker for $200  :(  I just didn't need it.

How could your buddy fail to use such a fine looking machine? Especially after you did such a good job of building and subtly modding it? Hope it went to a good home!

I know right!  For like 2 years it literally sat in the box that it shipped in to California.  The new owner is one of the cooks at the college where I work.  He's run it every weekend since he got it and his kids all want one now too.  :)  It's finally found a home.
