DT-03 Neo Fighter first ever build

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

Well last night I started my DT-03 Neo Fighter, and managed to get quite far in a few hours which surprised me as I was hoping would take me a bit longer to get this far.

I now have the basic chassis together, I found getting the "nibs" (bits of plastic left over from the mold) hard to get off on the main chassis part as it seems like a harder plastic. Other that that no issues

Using ball raced rubber sealed bearings, came with Carson radio gear and servo all seems good

This has the CVA shocks and TBLE-O2S ESC

Did you power up and centre the steering servo before installing ?

Just checking as often they are not on centre when new in box - if not power it up now, you may be lucky but if not its a lot easier to disassemble now to centre the servo saver

I've wanted one of these buggies since they were released.  Not sure why I still don't have one.  Fun looking build so far.

Tonight got CVA shocks built and mounted front ones, found building the shocks tedious.

I find getting all the parts off the trees can get a little boring when you have to do each part 4 times lol

Bit more done pretty much done on the chassis, apologies for lack of updates my son has been "helping"

Got all electrics connected and tested all looks good and performs well, very nippy. Next job the body, not looking forward to that. Will be next month as run out of ££££s for paint!

So all finished now really didn't take many pics I was too eager to get it completed. Hated cutting the body enjoyed spraying

Now has a brushless cheap 3000kv, I have ordered a larger pinion as its a bit mental on acceleration.

Also the tires are worn out from spinning up, so will look at better ones maybe stiffer springs

Reading this makes me even more impatient to get mine!

Not tempted by any hop ups and bling yet? I’ve not even got mine and I’m looking at the shiny blue stuff 😂

The shiny stuff looks very desirable, and there is certainly no lack of it for this chassis. However a lot of it is pure bling, with no functional benefit. Some parts (like alloy suspension arms for example) actually make the car more prone to breakage.

The parts that I have found to offer real benefits on my DT-03 are as follows:

  • Alloy gearbox bridges - Tamiya 54566
  • Steel 19t pinion (0.8 module) - Tamiya 54629
  • Steel axles (long) - Tamiya 50808
  • Steel dogbones - Tamiya 9805551
  • Steel splined diff outdrives - Tamiya 9805368
  • Splined diff gears - Tamiya DG2 from 50602
  • 70mm tierods - Tamiya 5335003
  • Ball connectors - Tamiya 50592
  • Alloy lower arm mount - GPM DT3008
  • Alloy upper arm mounts - GPM DT3027
  • Alloy C hubs - GPM DT3019
  • Alloy 10mm drive hexes - Racing Punk 201611154900
  • Thanks 1

Cool. I’ll look into that lot.

I’m just going to build it ‘as is’ for now. Only thing I’ve changed is a bearing kit and steel pinion, oh and the lightweight gear shafts as I had some nectar/Ebay £’s left!

Looking forward to starting the build just snowed under at work and Xmas prep. In a positive for me the kids want to help which is always good, although I might change my mind on that when we start it 😂

Bearing kit and steel pinion are an excellent start. Many would argue that they are the only true essentials on this chassis, along with perhaps the metal gearbox bridges if you think you might crash at all. Everything else is nice to have, but not required for running.

Yeah been looking at those. It’ll definitely crash, the kids will be using it too!
