Finally found a suitable terra scorcher for a decent but guilt free runner.

Just pulled it apart to check for damage and wear.

Ideally it could do with a few parts but not sure what my options are.

Gearbox outputs, all 4 are a bit worn, as are the rear axles. Dogbones seem ok though. What ones can I use? Are any better than others? I seem to remember seeing hardened ones maybe. If I buy modern ones will the old dogbones still fit?

The front shafts have a bit of play. How much rotational play in the joints is there when new? None? How much play is acceptable? They are available but not cheap!

Is there a better center prop that will fit? It seems the same length as the boomerang etc one but I cant use re re boomerang output cups on this car so cant use the re re prop. Are there any options, or am I making a shaft?

I need a rear shock shaft, they seem to be sold according to the size of shock rather than the length of the rod. What size are the rear shocks on the terra scorcher? I see these shocks have grey seals. Whats the difference between the different seal colours?

Other than these parts the car is good. No cracks or splits in anything other than A5. The parts seem a bit more flexible. Its been driven enough to wear out the driveline and crashed bad enough to break the bumpers and bend the shock and yet no other parts seem to have been damaged or replaced!

I think im going to enjoy this car.

Thanks.

Also, what are the modern 2" tyre options? This car has boomerang rear wheels all round. Ill probably look out for some white lightweight/vanquish wheels for it (or, are white avante wheels hard to find?) Either way, it needs 2" tyres. I have some old schumacher cat full spikes but could do with some more or something similar. Egress etc tyres are available but wondered if there was anything cheaper available. Spikes or blocks maybe, will be run on grass.

White lightweight vanquish wheels do seem to be attracting a premium on Ebay at the moment, which makes me possibly inclined to sell some of the ones I have ;)

I just bought some black ones to go on my boomerang.

Its awkward needing 4 rears for this car though, unless I fit the usual narrower fronts.

My black ones havent arrived yet. I may end up putting them on this instead but I suspect they wont look very good. If im right, ill have to keep my eyes open for cheap white ones. Dont want to spend loads on 8 wheels just to put 4 on a garden basher. Thats why im also considering avante wheels, there wide all round too right? White ones seem scarce though.

I've never seen the white avante 2001 wheels for sale. About as hard to find as rocking horse proverbial.

I'd stick with using narrow fronts on the terra scorcher, especially if you're going to run on grass, otherwise it's going to grip roll like a pig. This was what I did with my thundershot:

Thats very nice @MadInventor. Ill try it with narrow fronts and see how it goes. The white lightweights seem to come up often enough second hand, bit spendy for new ones though!

This black scorcher on allot avante wheels was for sale in japan recently.

With the schumacher tyres my boomerang would grip roll sometimes. II have 4 rears and a pair of fronts so I can try it both ways.

Whats the front one way in your thundershot?

Schumacher Cat spikes and blocks are still available - wheelspin models, apex models or modelsport

Black egress wheels are around on ebay, the white ones less so mainly because a lot sold initially to those of us wanting to smarten up our Vanquish / Avante series cars.  They do work well on the TS though..

Thats good news on the cat tyres. Ive seen them for sale, but couldnt find out if they were still 2" or not.

I have a set of black egress wheels coming, but as I say, they are ment for my boomerang. Your? Scorcher there does look well on the white version. At least if I go narrow on the front it will be easier/cheaper.

Yeah, Cat Blocks for the win there.

The driveshafts are the same length as all the modern Tamiyas. I've put Yeah Racing Universals in the front of my Thunder Dragon. They're listed as DF01/Manta Ray, but they're the same. Anything labelled DF02, TT02B or DT02/3 will fit on the driveshafts.

For the rear shocks, the only shafts I've found as spares are the TRF501X titanium coated shafts, 54043, but that is fitted to modern CVA 2 black body shocks, not the older yellow ones. The shafts are 49.6mm long. Measure yours and see if they're close. Get some good oil and Taimya red seals in there and they will be about as nice as CVAs will get.

Never seen any official prop shaft hop ups. Just people making their own out of aluminum tube and flattening the ends.

What is the difference in the seal colours?
