So, i’ve bought this chassis for my Fast Truck Speed Attempt build, and I’ve tripped over at the first fence. Suggestions to change to a rectangular hard pack slot please. It’s a grey one that says Manta Ray on the inside if that helps.

Soft 2s or 3s packs are your friend. Some really small ones about on hobbyking if you keep the capacity low on the 3s. I just add some ice cream carton (once empty) and gaffa tape on leading edges for extra protection.

Core RC has stickpacks that fit nicely.

Changing over to the Top Force FRP double deck chassis might be better though, as it will give you the space to use any battery you'd like.

Thanks for the input chaps. I don’t think funds will stretch to a lovely new chassis though. As I was browsing the HobbyKing battery section looking at soft packs, I spotted the shorty packs. If I did a hot soldering iron autopsy I could fit one length-ways and still have room for the servo. The chassis is “used” underneath so I won’t be ruining something valuable.

Don't need the specific shorty packs, it's the normal turnigy packs but c3000mAh for the 3s and up to 4000mAh ish for the 2s. It's the hight and width measurements. The thin ones fit in the curved stick pack slots.

I can't find the links atm as Hobbyking mobile is nigh on impossible to navigate imo lol.

You want UK warehouse supplied from them.

Give me a few mins and I will find you some.

Thankyou, you’re a star. I think i’ll need 3s, I’ll see if there’s some of a similar size.

A friend of my installs Virgin cables, I’m pretty sure he has some heavy duty heat shrink that’ll go over that. 👍

You mean you can't just hack saw off the part of the battery that's in the way...?

You can if you earth the blade into the mains. 🤔

Just FYI, the rear gearbox on the TA01/2 and DF01 aren't very strong. With too much power they crack and break apart. There's a few tricks you can do to reinforce them, but I read talk of going for 3S batteries upping the power considerably. A TA01 might not be the best fit for that.

I’ll keep my eye open for spares, I’ll need 3s for the speed. I didn’t pay much for it.

After it’s life as a speed thing, I expect it’ll become a rally car, so I don’t mind spending a few pennies towards it’s future life.

The question is do you want to use a vintage manta ray ta01 tub to destroy. When a new release ta02 tub is like $15. Maybe im wrong.. but id say nee plastic may be stronger.

Sorry $20 with free shipping

I didn’t know a TA02 was stronger and would fit.

TA01 or TA02 tub doesn't really differ much in strength.

If you would go for the TA02 tub, you'd also need the TA02 rear lower and upper arms to make it fit, as the TA02 tub is a lot shorter and the TA02 used different arms to compensate the wheelbase.

The first thing to break on a TA01 or TA02 will be either the rear gearbox lid, the front knuckles or any of the gears.

It’s only a cheap thing to try for a place on the speed records. If it survives, it’ll become a drift truck rally car park sliding thing.
