Top-Force Black Special

Recommended Posts

Top%20Force%20BS%20logo%2002_zps1qydemvu

I have for a long time wanted to build a Black Special version of the Top-Force, so here is my interpretation of how I think Tamiya would have made it.  I have gathered enough parts to get started. That said, I allready noticed some parts I must get and mods I must do. I will build the car with parts I got currently and will change parts and do mods to the car when I got the new parts and got time to do the mods I want to do. I was thinking to use this car as a runner, but I can allready say now that that wont happen, I will have to build another one for that purpose.

The first thing I did was to smell the tires :P

I got all my rc stuff tucked away, so the Dynatech will be mounted later

Today i got a little time to work on this build. I mainly did the transmission again with some gears more true to the Black Special.

why don't Tamiya make em like this?

I have some pink ball ends but they have faded a bit, compared to the avante bs wheels so I gave them also a bath in the pink dye

So to a question, is there anybody who knows if there is to get rods like these to use on the front arms, instead of the U bent one?

I got some with my alloy A-arms but I'm not using them anymore because i kept snapping the lower front gearbox cover even just from normal driving. I've gone back to the U-shape one and it's much better. If you want me to measure them I'll dig them out, I would let you have them if you were in the UK but I don't really have time to sort postage out this month.

Ahh, must be because of the distribution of the force due to the U-shape, I can't see any other reason. Or am I wrong?

Might get back to you in January, so I can buy em from you.

Well its mainly because the alloy a-arms are much stronger and obviously don't give as much as the plastic ones so all the force gets transferred to the lower gearbox casing, compound that with having individual pivots and it just rips the plastic apart. I have now got an alloy gearbox casing as well but have also gone back to the U-shape pivot for the extra support.

There's no need to buy them you can have them for free as I'll never be using them again, but I'd rather not sort it out immediately. I'll dig them out at some point and check back in this thread. I'm looking forward to seeing this one completed.

Looking forward to the end result!

I did not realize gears would take dye like that...  I tried doing a Frog chassis green once and it didn’t work well.  Still have the dye and a new kit on the way.  It’s gears may end up green for kicks!  Thanks for the ideas!

Yeah, me too. It's so long between when i get time to work on it.

To bad the chassis didn't take the dye. I think i read some place that if you have a small amount with aceton togheter in the water i could take dye. If you gonna try that do it on something not that important 😜
