A LiPo has 4 advantages over an equivalent NiMH. It has a slightly higher voltage, it can handle a higher current draw, it has a flatter discharge profile and it is lighter. Thus a car running LiPo will run faster, accelerate quicker and handle better than the same car running NiMH, even with a relatively humble ESC such as the TBLE-02, even if only because it weighs less.

I agree, lipo's are head and shoulders above nimh batteries, but, for someone getting back into RC after some time away, I'd suggest running a nimh battery  (but getting a lipo compatable charger), for a while.

Back then you ran Nicads down to 0v (lipos are ruined if they go below 3v a cell, 6v on 2s lipo) before charging, without an explosion sack, and you definately didn't need to storage charge when you finished using them!

I agree with sticking to NiMH initially, its just a lot easier.

Good point about the radio gear too, if you plan on getting a few cars then one that can handle multiple models is a good idea (also check the price of extra receivers as a sanwa receiver costs about twice as much as a Flysky rx/tx package) and the functions for racing if you might head that way. I have 4 sets of rc gear, only 1 is good enough to race but it means we can run a lot of cars at once.
