Right, I've decided against Spektrum so am looking at Futaba.

I can get a 4PLS wheel system with 2 receivers for about £175 delivered.

Alternatively I've found the 4GRS, the stick version of the 4PLS, with 1 receiver for about £30 more. I'm just waiting for confirmation of stock availability.

Obviously the 4PLS is cheaper and made more so by having the 2 receivers. But the 4GRS is the stick configuration that I'm more used to.

Other than the control method they have the same features - 40 model memory, 4WS mixes etc.

Cheaper OrangeRX receivers should also work with both.

The 4PLS, being older, is harder to get hold of. The 4GRS seems more abundant, although at higher prices.

To any readers: sorry for rambling. These last few posts have been my internal debate written out so I can keep track of it :)

Complication - the 4PLS that was available, isn't any longer. Could still get one but it would mean getting from the Far East, and probably get stung for customs.

I guess they were replaced a few years ago now so should be out of stock.  I was looking about a year ago and RCMart had heaps of them but now out of stock as well.  Hobbyking have it with 2 receivers for USD$200 + shipping which will work out about the same, unless you get stung with duties.

Good choice though, I wish I had gone with Futaba rather than Sanwa just because the rx are a lot cheaper, and the orange ones are available as well saving even more.

It was Hobbyking I was looking at. They had 1 in their EU warehouse, but it seems to have gone.

Ordering from Hong Kong is possible but the duties make it less appealing.

The 4GRS I was waiting to hear about is likely a no-go as well. I haven't been able to find a positive review of the place, they're all pretty damning. So I've written that off.

So, I could go for the 4PLS from HK and risk duties. I could go for a reputable source for a 4GRS and pay circa £250. Similarly I could go for a readily available 4PV, also in the £250-260 region.

Or I could put Spektrum back on the table.

After all of that, I've ended up negotiating a deal for a slightly used Spektrum DX4S. So took a punt on that.

I'm hoping that it will be old enough and/or have the right firmware for me to use the OrangeRX receivers.

The old GR300 receivers were a bit fussy about firmware, but the new Orange GR300R receivers work with all DSM2 capable Spektrum transmitters, even those with the latest firmware, so you'll be fine.

Hopefully. But from what I understand firmware 2.1 for the DX4S removed support for DSM2 completely in Europe.

I don't see that being likely, since many of Spektrum's current receiver range still use DSM2. I don't see why they would purposefully cause compatibility problems with their own equipment.

You've got the cheapest option imo, the CR151 has all the features and a micro rx are less than £15.

I've a tamco tac330 too, same as the cr151, but the core micro rx don't work,it's different software, so I've the cr151 now too lol

I have 2 TAC330's as well I'd like t get a third as my 2.5 yr old now want to play - no one seems to have any Tamco gear anymore what's happened to them I got mine from modelsport have about 8 or 9 of the receivers.

I use the TAC330 with a CR01 with 4ws and have recently fitted a Bastens quad steer module which works well with the 3rd ch switch and allows cycling through Front/Rear/4WS/Crab modes.

(yes you read that right he is not bad at driving the cars) I do turn the EPA right down to about 35% others wise he tends to ram into is elder brother rather too easily!

I don't know!

I got mine from fusion, I was looking for a core one, but that's all I could get. They don't work with core micro rx though, so ended up getting a recon core from MB models.

Modelsport listed no stock of either for a while, now the tamco and the core aren't listed, but the etronix now have one, remarkably similar , for  £75!

My daughter is the same age, she has trouble turning left, because of her little thumbs, and the epa is brilliant! 🙄😂

Hmm RC Model shop direct (never used them before) seem to have stock according to their website but the picture is wrong for some reason and the only option is Saturday delivery at 18.50 which seems a little steep - tried to get hold of them but they are not open today....
