Ok so now that the nights have drawn in* and the snow settles outside, the decorations are up and the presents are under the tree, that warm Christmassy feeling is all around that makes you all, er....warm and Christmassy, why not describe your past year in RC - summed up in just one word...!

I’ll go first:

’Hop-Up’ **

Because somehow it just happened over and over and over and over and over... Those lovely little packets with the red and blue colour scheme with a little piece of rc upgrade component loveliness inside.

What’s yours?

Disclaimers and Clarifications:

* Unless you live in Aus/NZ in which case you’re probably having a barbecue in the summer sun, you lucky guys

**ok ok technically that’s two words... but it’s one ‘term’!

 "rekindle."

After a decade, I restarted the RC with Montero Wheelie, Bigwig, Rere Blackfoot, Gravel Hound, and Zahhak.  It was Expensive and now projects are Postponed (because CFO said so).

FUN 😁

I've had a really fun year, picking up the mint bullhead for a song, and my 2yr old crashing it into tree's (with a worryingly hearty giggle! 😕), couple of battles on the speed thread, running 4 exhibition days at the ignition festival and making an A final, getting the Ultima project kind of up and running, the optima mid running on a brushless setup, and now Santa has a Novafox for my stocking 😁🖒🖒

EXPANDING!

Not my waistline ( ahem) but my RC collection....must be at 20 now....  'really need more self control' he sniggers quietly, as he logs out of PayPal after just paying  a TC member for another addition to the fleet ;)

Unfinished.

It isn't quite the end of the year so I might get a bit more done. I have yet to finish the car that started my hobby though I am soooo close.

And I have amassed far too many more, making enough projects to keep me going for quite a while yet!

Fame!

This year I managed a seven page article and the front cover of Tamiya Model mag July 2017, then a couple of months later the cover and eight pages in Radio Control Car Racer (October 2017). I was also the subject of a 40 page special from Hong Kong based RC Man magazine. My work was also featured on RC Monkey, Tamiyablog, Tamiyabase and Motor Magazine in Australia (https://www.motormag.com.au/news/1606/real-car-or-rc-car) plus to top it all off my parts layout Porsche 934 photo won a Tamiyaclub competion. Quite a year! :D

Progress!

While I am certainly no expert, over the course of this year I went from being a raw beginner myself to someone that has been able to give basic advice to other raw beginners. And from being persistently last on race day, I am now seldom right at the bottom, and on a good day can even make it into the podium! :D

Great job, Truck Norris!  It's wonderful to see your passion rewarded!

Losi

For me this year I have been bitten by the vintage losi bug.

I have also raced for the first time, I entered the Castle Hill Vintage Festival in Sydney NSW, I had a great time, met some really nice people and my Losi JRX Pro managed 6th out of 21 entrants in 2WD stock, I was very impressed with that as my track driving skills and car setup knowledge are pretty much non existent.

I will make an effort to cover my Losi's in the Other Makes section.....

Successful

More my negotiating skills to manage to get 4 race cars past the Home Office, rather than success using the cars so far, but things are improving...oh and to get 5 other cars too.

My prediction for my word for 2018 is Frustrating as my lap times don't go down as my spending goes up...

Reawakened

After 25ish years away, seeing my boys playing with some toy rc's prompted me to look for my old Blackfoot.

Didn't find it straightaway so bought a re-re Boomerang, then a Wild Dagger, Twin Detonator, found the Blackfoot, bought a Clod Buster, bought an RC10, sold the Wild Dagger, bought a Top Force, bought a nib TXT-2 and bought a re-re Monster Beetle kit last week.

That's all in addition to my old ProCAT and half an Avante 2001 which I found with the Blackfoot.

Oh and the boys toy RC cars got superseded by a Lunchbox and a Mad Bull.

All since May :D

Frustrating.

Love F100's, bought a Lowride Pumpkin with a very specific idea of how I wanted it to look, spent considerable time and money trying to achieve it, didn't quite get there.

FUN!

This past year was my return to the r/c hobby after a 25 year hiatus.

Since last March I've bought and built these kits and even made a track in my backyard.

Frog re-re

Stadium Thunder

Neo Fighter

Neo Scorcher

CC-01 Unimog

XV-01 rally kit

I'm having so much fun and my wife and daughter think I'm addicted, but I feel like I'm 14 again with these things!

Everything takes time you don't always have.

By the time you think you've got a handle on things, it's winter time! 🙄

As a fellow fan of the F100's, I think it's beautiful. I really like the wooden bed idea and wide wheels.
