Surely 2018 is the year of the 959???????

Pumped that they're doing another Egress, where was that info released?

but my wish list is anything Astute/Madcap related.  I'd like to see a modern ball diff and joints for those cars, maybe even a ball diff inside a TTC as standard.

Great to see a few others with Astute / Super Astute on their wishlist and there hasn't been a 2WD buggy first time re-released for a while now, (Grasshopper II I guess).  The Astute or Super Astute will definitely get a re-re but just no telling when of course ?  I say this because the Astute was very popular in Japan and Tamiya really pumped it up as their first "modern" :D 2WD racer.

Just like the Egress 2013, you would expect the same design ball diff and an upgrade to 3mm balls in the diff.  The original diff issue was mostly due to it not taking well to over-tightening but the Egress type redesign and 3mm balls would solve that.  If the rear hubs were the Super Astute type and the rear lower suspension arm mounts were stronger or simply just the same as Madcap, then these issues are solved as well.  The addition of the Super Astute G parts tree (in-line battery tray and front bulkhead support) would be a blessing along with a change of springs.  The original Astute dampers and springs were clearly left overs from other models (Fire Dragon / Grasshopper II) and the spring rates were completely wrong.  I think Tamiya just expected that most would Hop-Up to Hi-Caps anyhow.

It was announced by a well-known tamiya stockist (Tony's Tamiya Parts) and I think the major UK hobby sites have pre-orders now (e.g. Modelsport, etc.)

Only re-re I'd really be interested in is an Escort Cosworth (tiger-stripe, Michelin or Repsol, not the ugly WRC shell), but anything with Ford branding seems unlikely.

Quattro, Ascona or R5 Turbo would be good too.

Hope the King Cab is never re-re'd 'cos I've already got one.

Buggies ?  Meh.

I would buy a Madcap re re like a shot!

But an Astute? I had one back in 1990, and still remember what a nightmare it was to keep serviceable! Unless the spares supply is plentiful, one to leave well alone...

I'd love to see them re-release the M1025 Hummer.  Have a few of these trucks and body parts have been difficult to find for years now.  I'd buy two or three if they released it again.

Man it is quiet from Tamiya. Seems like ages since the last announcement of something interesting from the golden ages...

Nuremberg last year was when they announced the Avante, Hot Shot, Boomerang and Bigwig? So far they've announced another Egress-run.
So we can hope for something next week, can't we?

that could be the reason why modelsport still have the egrees for sale but its got the expected due in date of 1st oct know i would say this is last years date as i do remember seeing it before christmas but at the kind of money i don't see why

Hang on....I think I have worked out a good Omen!

959 and 2018

9+9 = 18....from 2018

That leaves us with 5 and 20

20 divided by 5 is 4

So....2018 is the year 4 the 959!!

Amazing!!!!! :D

Manta Ray aside (even that is just a nicety as opposed to a big surprise), it’s been quite a meh showing from Tamiya I’m sorry to say. Are they saving stuff for the Japanese show? Who knows!

There is a lot of hankering for a 3 speeder and of course the 959/Celica. These would be the biggest surprises left, followed by King Cab/Monster Racer.

Personally I’d also like to see the Hotshot II at some point for nostalgic reasons. Anything else bar the above I’m pretty much take it or leave it though I see a lot of love out there for the rest of the  dragon series and madcaps etc.

Blazing Blazer and Hilux 3 speed would be awesome!!

Couldn’t agree more. Very boring thus far and have no interest in any of them. Looking to Kyosho for good re-re’s this year unless Tamiya pulls their finger out and drops some later in the year.

Well I have placed an order for the Lancia 037 Rally on the TA02-S, with Fusion Hobbies!!! :D

Should be delivered mid to late February.

I will be getting the 2CV for my birthday, which is in June! :)

And that's just two or so weeks away! (the Lancia 037, that is - the excitement is palpable)

I have been looking forward to that day since the pre-orders were first made available. Great Hobbies in Canada was ordering some, so I even get to buy somewhat locally, too - or at least get to pay my imports all up front :P

And that should give me enough time to save up for the 2CV and about 4 more bodyshells for all those ideas in the 2CV thread ;)

I understand why a lot of people are complaining about the lack of "interesting" re-releases, but not everybody can afford a 959 or Blazing Blazer if Tamiya redid one. The 2018 Manta Ray gives me the impression that it is another good way to enter the world of re-releases (both in cost and perceived ease of use, even if that shell might get tricky to finish), and still has a crowd of its own who remember the original.

If anything, I find it more interesting, because the Manta Ray is linked to the touring cars which we know Tamiya for, and yet it would not be considered a common candidate for reissue. The announcement that the chassis' hop-ups will also be re-released is intriguing.
