Parts are pricey so you have to ask yourself how original do I want it to be.

The proper stepwise Hilux cab bodyparts are unique & have some detail differences to the later Bruiser/Mounty part. I remember trying to make a later windscreen fit & it didn't look happy; had to get a proper old example instead.

You can use the front cab of the Bruiser if you make up a rear bulkhead, one of my many ongoing unfinished projects is trying to make up a new shell for the Hilux using an ebay used rear shell which is very different, to a modern front end cab so I can add LED’s etc and use later glass etc. I used some styrofoam and an old bulkhead as a template.

I don’t have pics of it as it now stands but it should work pretty well. New project shell on bottom shelf...

The plan was to try and have at least one half of the shell be replaceable. As you know, finding the originals is not easy. Hopefully they’ll rere it lol! The drivers cabin is also different and screws in from the side screws on the newer front cab.

Yep there's surprisingly a lot of difference, and this is before it appeared on the HiLift & 540-motored rere Bruiser & Mounty too.

I'm still accumulating parts to rebuild a used stepside and one useful find was a hybrid project where somebody had tried to graft a genuine stepside bodyset onto a Bruiser chassis :o

^ That would be cool lol.

Just took a pic of my front cab, it’s unfinished, I have a couple of variations, the end one will be smoothed in with miliput.

Ok so I need a genuine hilux glass?

i didn’t know there was so much difference in the front cabs.

i knew the back section was different to the bruiser,

i will strip all the paint off to see what I’m working with as it looks really thick red paint and start again.

so if any of you guys have a front and rear glass please let me know.

i will make a list of spares I need.

i don’t want to rush this one as I want to get it as best as I possibly can.

Yea she’s mega she helps me find parts and stuff I have 39 models 21 of which are vintage Tamiya which over 30 years of collecting you don’t realise what you collect over that time.

its my 40th birthday in 3 weeks so she said 40th model on my 40th birthday

she’s great but won’t let me have it. Lol

The later versions used M3 screws to hold them together, I think the original used M2... couldn't easily interchange parts between generations & it depends how picky you are on genuine originality.

There are repro beds and cab backs  available on US ebay - no idea on quality though.

I have a high lift hilux glass in my vintage hilux - it took a little bit of tinkering to fit but certainly not rocket science.

In other news my Hilux repro tyres arrived today from eBayer hwpeterl - very impressed with them !

No foams which are better for running than the vintage plastic inner support rings, but not complaining

They look really good

to be honest I’m not sure if I will run it, maybe test it in the house then on the shelf I think.

ive got a few other Tamiya models I can run and wouldn’t want to damage it as I plan to make it as mint as I possibly can.
