Have you seen the @Pintopower 3 speed transmission lift kit? Search the AMPRO Engineering YouTube channel. Gives much more ground clearance.

Ah no did not realise he did one, I have already got the junfac one.

Great thread!

I recently picked up a NIB Hilux for a steal and have always wanted to build one. I see conventional wisdom is that they're not the best crawler but that's fine for my needs, I'll gain the most enjoyment from building it (I want to build a 3 speed, never have) and the rest from very simple running in the backyard. I have a proper (1:10) race car and other runners for other duties.

I plan to build it stock (+bearings) first and will need to research radio gear (all my stuff is 3ch). For the time being I'll skip the MFC ($$$).

I've learned in this thread that the bodies (especially Hilux) aren't very durable, are there other bodies (even non-Tamiya) that are known to fit that might be worth investigating?

How are the kit screws? Should I get an aftermarket stainless set?

Anything else I must get (or consider) before commencing the build?

Are there any reference build threads that any of you recommend?

Cheers.

@djmcnz I don't have those answers but I would highly recommend heading to the AMPRO Engineering YouTube channel as @Pintopower has videos on the transmission conversion he did and I think there's a buyers guide too so there will be loads of tips in there. Alberto loves those 3 speeds so he will know the score.
