So my son was given a cheap toy grade RC crawler for christmas by the grandparents.

Let's say I was not consulted...

Anyway, two suspension links broke the first day and the others are probably going as soon as these get replaced. The problem is the boy really likes his Christmas gift.

So now I have to come up with a replacement for 6 of these:

They are about 5.2 cm in length and the ball ends are 8 mm.

The problem as I see it is to find a replacement that reproduces the angle of the ball ends. I don't have the tools to drill anything at the right angle, but perhaps with a soft metal I can bend something into shape?

The design of the crawler means that I cannot just use a straight rod.

Any suggestions for how to approach this?

Step 1: Buy something like a Rock Socker. Paint it in the same colors. Nobody will notice! :D

Anyway! Maybe something with a sheet of GRP? I don't know how much forces are going through it... Maybe a brass rod bent to a suitable angle?

The real issue is finding the suitable ball ends.

Thanks for the reply.

I finally decided on some threaded bar and 8mm treaded balls. I got 3mm brass threaded bar for easier bending. Won't be pretty, but perhaps pretty steampunk.

8mm threaded balls are very hard to find. 10mm is easy to get.
