Double 1 Posted January 19, 2018 Building a TT02 White Edition for rally racing. I've been told that it will help to build the diffs with some AW grease. At least in the front. Does anyone use oil as well or will it leak out. Maybe 500,000wt? Thanks!
TurnipJF 9113 Posted January 20, 2018 Very thick oil flows very slowly, but it flows nonetheless. In a non-sealed diff such as that used in the TT-02, even very thick oil will eventually find its way out. If you want the diff to remain maintenance free, best use the AW grease as recommended.
WillyChang 1812 Posted January 20, 2018 Only use liquid oil (however thick) in diffs that have seals to stop (slow down?) leakage. There's some 3rd party companies specialising in option gear diffs for different models including T but I don't know if TT01/2 is one of them.
Juggular 4914 Posted January 20, 2018 Oh, I guess if the diffs don't have o-rings to make it water-tight, oil will leak out. Since I use Bad Horsie diff grease that's much stickier than AW, I considered bolted diffs "sealed." But I can see how liquid could ooze out. For on-road chassis, AW should be good enough, even for rally purposes.
