Who has more projects on the go than hours in the day?

I'm not sure what my issue is, I start looking for parts to use in a restoration, & end up coming home with another model in need of resurrection. Today (as an example) I was searching for some SRB parts, & somehow ended up buying a complete M38 LWB, M38 spare body, and a vintage Willys Wheeler!

I must be attracted to complete basket cases or feel the need to 'save' these models as I've not bought a NIB or unbuilt kit in over 20yrs.

Todays new acquisitions brings the running total to 14 chassis/car restorations + around 20 vintage shells being worked on.

Please tell me I'm not alone?! 😳

I do this all the time! I'm in the process of building an FF01 speed run car. While looking for spares for the inevitable breakages I have somehow ended up with  5 rolling FF01 chassis'

I've then also ended up with a TA03 and TL01 that came as a job lot with an FF01!

I dread to think how many concurrent projects I have up in the air. I like converting toy grade stuff too and I have a horde of vehicles that would put a 1980s toys r us to shame let alone the hobby grade stuff.

I'm pretty sure I have more stuff than I'll ever be able to finish in my lifetime but oh well, most of them were opportunistic bargains from ebay, gumtree etc and it's nice to know I'll never be bored!

Congratulations on your acquisition of M38.

I got some special flange bearings for LWB M38, but haven't put on. I couldn't get the axle-binding pins in rear hexes free.  I also have the servo saver part for M38, but haven't put on.  Haven't figured out how to fix cracked tires.  Montero Wheelie needs decals put on, Blackfoot also.  Zahhak shell needs a paint job. I got clutch parts for TLT, haven't put on.  I need to find out why Terra crusher's radio doesn't work...etc, etc...   At least, I attached the windshield with 3D printed hinge parts from Shapeway.

If you go beyond half a dozen cars, this is bound to happen, I should think.

So it appears I have a problem since I don't do this? The only spares I have to hand are those that I know i will need like shock towers for my 4wd buggy racer, or left over on parts sprues when I have broken stuff. I also have tuning parts like spurs and pinions, springs etc.

Is there a support group for people without enough cars?

That picture immediately reminds me that I need a windscreen & hinge! 😂

Not the best pictures, but below are today's latest haul;

You're defiantly not alone!

Sometimes I'm disappointed that an eBay purchase is better than I'd expected, as then it's too good to break, and ive got another project and not parts to finish one I've started!! 😂

Focused RC anonymous (FRCA) is there for people who just cannot start another project unless one is done.  There, you can discuss how you just cannot get swamped by a dozen projects like normal RC folks.  Other focused people will understand your suffering as they get teary-eyed over your life story of one successful completion after another...  lol...  It's all good.  RCers come in all shapes and sizes.  In the end, we all love RC, no matter how many unfinished projects we have.

Project-Multiplying-Syndrome (PMS)  ... er .... better make that Multi-Project-Syndrome (MPS) is more common with vintage restorers, I suppose.  My M38 never had the hinges.  There was no thread on the windshield.  I couldn't find the spare hinges (at a low price I was willing to pay) until 3D printing was available.  So poor Willy stayed on a shelf while I was playing with younger Willy2...  that came out wrong...

This site is for all the waifs and strays of the RC world... having multiple cars with none of them finished  is almost normal here.

I’m over 20 cars now in about 1.5 years since joining this site... with about 10 projects on the go right now with 4-5 differing tweaks/ ideas needed to other cars plus over 10 bodyshells to paint, and I’ve just bought a NIB Pumpin, NIB TB03 Rally car and am about to buy a RTR non Tamiya Moster Truck Just so I can drive it straight away... as I don’t have time ( concentration) to do any of the above... Happy? You bet ;)

My mate is a candidate for the FRCA, with over 30 working RC cars and only one in pieces at any given time. Me, I'd love to join the MPS, but will need to do some saving first. :)

Yeah next time you are down my way, bring some cash, I will help sort your 'problem'

I would love to have more time for my rc's. But my little people take up all my spare time.

Actually I'm due down your way in a month or so, will let you know when.

I got my little person an RC car before he had a hope of driving it.  Now he has 3 and can sort of drive.  You need to make best use of your little people!

Yup... currently:-

  1. found some rear wheels at LHS last week, with them decided to build a Frog just like the one I first played with originally. Building it with a hulk I bought 20+ yrs ago, adding rere parts I bought 10+ yrs ago  plus other vintage bits from the boneyard... which included some old wheels as the new rere W1 wheels won't fit on old hubs (whoops!).
  2. dug up Blitz, decided it looked too tatty for 2018 so thought to give it a new shell... found a shell on the waiting-4-paint queue, for a Slash 4x4 that's been sold years ago  that amazingly fitted just right yay! Poked to new holes, mounted... and it's back waiting for paint
  3. latest CC01 arrival... had chipped off all the superglue OO used to glue accessories to lexan :o then inspected chassis & ran around rounding up usual hopups... nope, outta stock so reordered... now awaiting slow boat from HK

thats just in fortnight since Xmas  so now tripping over an extra 3 lots of WiP plus all the others from previous years... r'uhoh...

Don't worry, they grow up. :)

Then they DON'T want to play with you anymore, but you're still stuck minding them during school holidays whilst they play their own stuff.

(which leaves "time" to go peek in long neglected boxes, which sparks off "new projects" above)

Before long they'll be teenagers.

Oh boy, can't wait. <_<

Yeah call in! I got my little girl a Nikko Vapour Nano thing, she loves it, but doesn't fully understand the controls. I am too far down the rabbit hole to say "I bought this Tamiya for her..." she wouldnt buy it. <_<

Wait?! wuzzat?! :o:blink::wacko::unsure::huh:

Over at another hobby... common practice is to seek out "birthyear" pieces to gift your child when he/she turns 16/18/21/grads/married/grandkids or whatever milestone you care to invent.

heck, some marketer even coined up the idea you're only custodian for the next inheritor <_<

I've already fallen into the trap of using them as an excuse to buy more cars, next on the project list is a berry pink Lunchbox with unicorns on the side! 😳

Ha, my 22 month old daughter positively hates the little RC we bought for her, it has a steerwheel you tilt to turn the wheel... red thing named after a toy cartoon thingy... she spouts”NO LIKE IT” when I drive it up to her...I think it’s the crunching noise it makes between forward to immediate reverse that she “DON’T LIKE”,  still atleast I get to RC inside the house without getting shouted at.

I hope when she’s older she will like RC.. I’ve a few I will let her drive.

Indoor RCs are best kept to crawlers & anything palmsized or smaller B)

Daddy (who repaints the walls) makes the rules... only He can drift indoors too.

My daughter (4) is not into it at all she plays for a bit then gets bored, my son 7 has two cars a FTX Carnage and a Tamiya Rising Fighter he goes through spurts of interest. Funnily enough prefers to use his Tamiya first then move onto the FTX, looking for an old cheap duffed up Tamiya that I can let him loose on

As I only got the 2 Madbulls this week I am not sure how the two littles will fare, reckon the 7 YOB will be grand as he is quite determined and patient. The little lady.......its really so she is not left out and know I will end up driving two buggies one with each hand, I can drive one 1 handed as I often hold her with other but not sure how I will fare with controller in my left......lol.

Agh sure its a bit of craic!!
