Doc Hollywood 160 Posted January 29, 2018 Hi all my motor has died so I am looking for a motor and also a rubber motor cover for my vintage Tamiya blazing blazer. . Share this post Link to post
Lightningrc 53 Posted January 31, 2018 Upgrade the motor to a tamiya high torque one . Share this post Link to post
Doc Hollywood 160 Posted February 1, 2018 what pinion would I use as the old one doesn't come off Share this post Link to post
Lightningrc 53 Posted February 1, 2018 Yes it does . put the old motor in a vice to make life easier for you with pinion sticking up in and clamping against motor body . use two flat bladed screw drivers inserted under the pinion , then prise each side evenly both the same time and it will lift straight off . Lightningrc 53 Posted February 1, 2018 It’s an interference fit pinion , if you like then put a tiny bit of rod loctite on new motor shaft and tap the new pinion on being sure not to knock on too far and to leave the same gap as like in original motor Share this post Link to post
Lightningrc 53 Posted February 1, 2018 To avoid damaging the motor when you knock pinion on . place the bottom of the motor over a vice so the inner shaft sits on it . so when you tap pinion on your not hitting the shaft inside the motor if that makes sense . Share this post Link to post
Lightningrc 53 Posted February 1, 2018 To refitt the pinion you can also press it on with a vice . if your vice will open wide enough carefully hold pinion over end of shaft and use the vice to compress it together being carefull again not to press it in too far 1 Share this post Link to post
Lightningrc 53 Posted February 1, 2018 I’m running the tamiya high torque motor and decided to ditch the original speed controller and use a tamiya ESC also 1 Share this post Link to post
Doc Hollywood 160 Posted February 1, 2018 Thanks for all of the advice I have managed to get the pinion off I will probably use a standard 540 motor Share this post Link to post
