Hello All!

I just found this website/forum last night and it has renewed my interest in vintage RC cars again. Thanks! [:D]

I was looking through some showrooms and came across a couple sets of old Technacraft wheels (Shodog's showroom I think?). Anyways, I remember these from when I was a kid and couldn't afford any for my Fox then. Now that I'm older I may be able to afford them, but finding them is a different story. I have a couple Fox projects I want to start up on again and I would LOVE to have a set of these wheels for it. They would really be the finishing touch to my "Red Fox"! [;)]

I'll also be looking for a Cox Tomahawk in the near future. I remember begging my mom mercilessly for one of these in the local hobby shop. It was and still is the most beautiful of all the buggies (IMO). If anyone has any leads on a near mint(with box), new built(with box) or NIB I would really appreciate it. I'd also consider a Kyosho Tomahawk for a "modified" car to build up. (I know there isn't really any difference between the 2, but I have my reasons and that's enough for me.[:P])

My questions are what are the price ranges for the Technacraft wheels when they pop up?

The price ranges of the Tomahawk (Cox or Kyosho) in the conditions I'm looking for?

I'm digging through ebay now... only 200+ pages to go. [B)]

Best regards,

hello just my two cents worth...im sure shodog will also help you

both items your looking for are rare.......

if you where to find a set of techni rims....im sure you will pay atleast a 100$ for them......

and a nib tomahawk is really rare....and i bet would fetch atleast 500$

Tuff,

Shodog (Jim) is the tecnacraft king. Shoot him an email for any info related to those wheels. FYI. I just dropped $120 for set of four on road wheels (my first set). They are almost impossible to find, short of finding Jim in San Jose and raiding his store room. You had better take some steaks with you to fend off the killer weiner dog![:0]

Tecnacraft wheels go for a lot of money. The last set I bought on ebay went for $139. I was bidding on a set for an optima and the bidding went over $300 for a used set of wheels. They are by far the finest aluminum wheel that was made at the time. as for finding a set for the fox that might be tough. I have never seen a set for it. Most of the wheels were made for RC-10 and Losi JRX buggy.

The Cox Tomahawk was a rebadged Kyosho Tomahawk. This piece of info will help you on your search for them. Since they shared many parts with the Scorpiona and turbo scorpion, you might able to buy one of those and convert it over. I think NeoGeo had some replica bodies made or has knowledge on how to obtain them. BTW don't look at this link http://www93.sakura.ne.jp/~time-tunnel/old%2001.html as you will be in some serious envy.

Thanks for all the kind replies!

$500 for a Tomahawk was a bit more than I guessed they would be worth. I was thinking they were in the $300 range. [:I]

Technacraft wheels are about what I figured though. [;)]

Just glad I don't own an Optima and want those wheels! [:0]

I'd definitely be interested in a set for a Fox if anyone comes across a set (or even a pair).

Shodog, Reason for me wanting the Cox version is I remember the ones I was looking at in the hobby shop when I was a kid were the Cox badged versions. How do I remember this? My cousin (closest thing I had to a brother) was usually there drooling with me and his last name is Cox. We were sure it was meant to be. [;)]

He eventually did get one, but I never did. I got to build it for him though as he was never very good at that kind of stuff. [:D]

Shodog, you live in San Jose? I'm only 1.5 hours away over in the Modesto area! I'd love to check out some of your collection if you wouldn't mind. Especially that RC10! That thing is SWEET!

Been about 5 or 6 years since I even opened up my boxes of R/C stuff. I think I started selling some of it off, then changed my mind and put the rest of it away. I'm going to go dig it out and see what I have left. It will be like X-mas all over again. [:D] [:P]

Hope to talk to you guys again soon,

Whats wrong with putting together a project Tomahawk/ Scorpion? Half the fun is working on, searching for parts and displaying these things. Nothing is more satisfying ( as far as RC models goes anyways ) then the journey of restoring an old car. I picked up a Scorpion the other day with a BIN of $60.00 off ebay, and have a spare Tomahawk chassis in pieces; now I have enough parts to put one or the other together, just have to figure out which one. As far as your Technacraft wheels goes, I am no expert, but have never heard of Technacraft (or Tecnacraft ) making wheels for the Fox. If you want some good looking wheels for your Fox, believe it or not, Duratraxx used to make them for that car years ago; came in a couple different annodized aluminum choices ( red, blue, gold ) Keep your eyes peeled for the Technacrafts......I picked up a really nice set of 4 (used)in a lot off ebay. Lucked out because it was a BIN; watch for the lots with a car, a hundred tires and just as many rims. Usually, anybody that had the old school stuff with that many wheels, had a set of the show wheels (Tecnacraft).

Jay I am glad you got those. They are some sweet looking wheels.

Not to get off subject here, but Floyd, I hear ya, I am not that far from you, Metro Detroit....... We can hold our own out this way.

I would love to go see Jim's stuff. He has one of the best showrooms on TC IMHO. Hope it all works out.

I just got done going through everything I have left and wrote it all down. [B)]

I'll put it all on some sort of table (Excel probably) once I get a chance. It's all Fox and 959 parts. [:I]

Couple cool trinkets in there I forgot I had. [:D]

Came up with a small misc. box of stuff I'd be willing to trade off to. Those parts lots always have junk in them that I have no use for. Of course one man's junk is anothers treasure. [;)]

WOW AGAIN. I spent some time looking at that site, REALLY IMPRESSIVE. Two questions: 1. Does any one know of a translator so I can spend another 3 hours reading all his info? 2. Does anyone have an email address for this guy? I tried just mousing over and did not run across any email address. Jim? Anyone? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah I agree with everyone else. The detail he has on all of his cars are great. Very nice examples and he has an entire PAGE of Tomohawks! Someone has a soft spot for them! [:P]

In the last couple of days I have saved 37mb of RC car pics, most of which are his.

Thanks for the link Jim. [;)]

The wheels on the RC 10 in the last pic are my FAVORITE R/C wheels bar none.

I think Jim has a set on a Scorpion or something in his showroom also.

I'm very impressed with the left and right sided wheels and of course with the quality.

If I could get my grubby little hands on a front and rear, I have a machinist friend that could make me more or make a set for Tamiya cars. [:P]

If anyone comes across a set for sale, please let me know. [;)]

here's an ad I found in an old RC magazine. Sorry for the low quality...I didn't want the file to be too large. Anyhow, I just completed my vintage RC CAR ACTION magazine collection. I have every issue from 1986 - 1995. If you need any information from thos mags, just holla at me:

Thanks 403! Those look sweet!

I see why Jim has so many of them. They were made not too far from his home town. [:P]

Did you save a high quality version on your PC by any chance?

If so would you mind emailing it to me? ( patrickATtuff240DOTcom )

EDIT: BTW, don't call that number. The guy on the other end isn't very friendly...LOL. [:I]

I got into contact with that machine shop a couple of years ago. they said they could make more but they would be prohibitivley expensive. Salinas California is only about an Hours drive from me.

here's some better scans that some have asked me for. I also posted an artcile "Project Optima" in the Kyosho forum. It has some pics of an Optima with Tecnacraft rims as well. Go check it out!

Wow Jim,

Seems you have just as many sets of technacrafts as I have.....i think we have cornered the market.

I have the Original set of tecnacrafts for a blackfoot, when they were just a one piece wheel. nice looking collection!
