Apologies for being slightly off topic,

My son has a 1/18th Ripmax - Was a Dingo but converted it to a Husky - has had loads of upgrades along the way. The 370x motors are cheap but it seams to be going through them like no tomorrow, can anyone advise of a better option - don't need it to go any faster just need them to last a bit longer!

cheers

i'm not sure I have not managed to get one apart yet - rather fiddly! do you recon the brushless ones will work with the existing esc, if so were can you get them uk wise?

thanks

No you would need a new esc also as you probably have a brushed one. I have one in my bashed pit up which I got cheap from hobbyking. I'll see what spec the esc is. When you say they are failing do they just stop working? Do they smell burnt out? There could be something binding adding additional load as they shouldn't be wearing out as quick as you are saying.

well the last one went on the weekend - and strangely it just started slowing down - as if the battery was running out (it was not, as I am running 7.4 lipo with an alarm). No burning smell - and motor still turns by hand freely, I should add that this is the first motor to go under lipo all the rest have gone under 7.2 Nimh !

Hmm the problem with changing the ESC is that it is combined with the RX:

and the Controller has EPA - which is very handy when the younger 2.5 yro want's to have a go.

do you know of any better quality brushed 370's - I've looked everywhere I can think of and not bringing up much, Model sport have one possible - which looks like it has replaceable brushes.... I will try and call them and ask - the original car came from them.

Doesn’t sound like a problem with the motor. Just doesn’t make sense that you would be getting through them so quickly.

how does the drive train feel with the motor removed.

Hmm I have not checked since you have asked but from memory the bearings feel okay but some of them are probably not the best and need replacing - they are all ball races though...

Ahhh nuts I've just ordered 2 of these Maverick Mm - 28 370 Motor from MS - they said it was pretty much the same motor performance wise.

Doh, you might be ok if you turn down the throttle epa, I never tried and just replaced the electronics with the standard stuff that came with a RTR brushed FTX Outlaw.

Well, I have stripped the drive train and rebuilt it and found no dodgy bearings so I am a little confused to say the least as to why it keeps trashing motors.

Maybe the motors just can’t handle the voltage? Doesn’t make sense as they are designed to. Consider changing the electrics and going brushless. Cheap 370 size goolrc combos are only £25 and will give big performance increase to boot. Perhaps you can upload some pics there could be something obvious we haven’t thought of.

Not sure if it's the motors or not but I do know that those little motors get super hot even in lightweight vehicles, they just have such little surface area to dissipate heat. Even some of my toy grade conversions would regularly cremate 370 motors. Even though the vehicles are light in the scheme of things I guess they still weigh enough to get those little motors hot.

I generally try and swap to a 23x30mm brushless these days, obviously you have to change out the stock ESC/RX but honestly it's worth it if heat is the problem, brushless is just so much more efficient you can get something that's simultaneously faster AND runs much cooler.
