JD's Kyosho Javelin build thread

Recommended Posts

Well, this certainly won't be as comprehensive as the bruiser thread was, as the build itself took me about 6hrs all up - LOL.

But as we all know - ♫ Everyone loves a build thread!

So here is my short and sweet thread, some questions will be asked, but it's more for the punters out there who Google this and need some pics!

Presentation and easy of following is A1. Also the manual is very high-quality paper, much thicker than Tamiya ones.

Love the tools:

Beautiful kit, very satisfying to build. Lots of good aluminium in it. Also very nice to have all hex bolts to put it all together:

Not impressed with how far out the pinion needs to be, to mesh properly... hmmmm

Impressed by this bit of foam, very nice:

Unlike Tamiya the Kyosho stickers are pre-cut:

I bought a LeMans 240s Brushless 15.5t but decided to put in the Hobbywing Juststock 13.5t brusless system, the deal was just far too good:

I also can't bring myself to buy Hitec, Futaba etc servos, the cost is just offensive, and surely in 2018 technology has caught up to the point where speed and torque can be matched for a much cheaper dollar amount? Time will tell!

I bought a few to put in other cars, high torque for the Clod, and mildly high torque for the Bruiser and one for the Javelin:

The tires are incredibly sort, will shred through them in no time. Almost want to get a set for running and use these for the shelf... Also the foams are nice.

I decided to white the tires, using this new head magnifier is so much easier:

Well the suggested ESC position doesn't work for this Hobbywing ESC on the Javelin I'm sorry to say, so a lot more work is going to have to go into where to put it. For now, I have had to put it on the top deck, but I have to install the driver so hopefully there is a way:

Soldered up the Juststock 13.5t motor:

WHAT A MESS!

So the big questions are how do people fit these ESC's into their rides?

Nice looking ride. I have an original Javelin. I just upgraded the rear gear box to the newest version. I  had stripped a gear and it was cheaper to but all the part from a new Javelin than to get gear set OT-27.

I put an EZRUN ESC in it and installed in under the roll cage where the driver would be on the LHS and put the receiver on the RHS.

Very nice build, just leaves me waiting for Kyosho to pull their finger out and release the Turbo Optima, which is the one I really want :)

I was similar, was waiting for the Turbo Optima Mid and just got the bug after starting to restore my old one. Can't wait until 2019 so this is a good in-betweener. I forgot how much I like Kyosho, incredible quality.

I love Tamiya, but Kyosho kits are on another level.

Yeah this is my first Kyosho build in 30 years, it did not disappoint. The packaging in its entirety, blister pack, manual and then overall quality of the plastics, screws, aluminium finish and stickers was all A1 quality. The machining almost seems better (dare I say it) than Tamiya!

I've never built Kyosho, aside from a small electric heli.  All these nice photos make me want to adopt another company!

Got a chance to shoot her properly. God, she's a beauty. Need to put the LeMans in there for a better retro feel.
