Hi All

Guess what its snowing in the west country, like the idea of running the cars but worried about the electrics. Anyone  had any issues?

Just follow the same procedure as you would for water proofing is my only advice. Especially the ESC and reciever.

Popping stuff inside a balloon is the classic trick or you could try a mini tupperware type box.

You could use something like plastic dip to waterproof the parts too. I would prefer plastic dip on the esc vs a balloon because the balloon will hamper cooling. Better still would be a waterproof ESC to begin with, the quicrun 1060 is cheap and waterproof.

I usually use one of my quicrun 1060s and then a balloon around the reciever.

If things are going to get really wet then you'll want to waterproof the servo too although with "dry" snow it might not be an issue especially if you get all the snow off before you take it back indoors and it melts. You can use plastidip again or silicone sealant, there are seviral guides on google.

You might want to wrap some electrical tape or similar around the battery connectors too just to keep it out of there.

It wasnt too bad on 3S, and on fresh stuff, but the ruts in the snow are up to the knees.

As others have said: waterproof electronics work well for this weather; otherwise, put the receiver in a balloon, plastic-dip the servo, and either plastic dip the ESC or put it in a box. A few vents on the top surface will help with cooling.

I also taped up the battery connector, but stopped the practice when it became clear it was not sufficiently exposed on my models to warrant the extra attention.

The only issues I have had with cold-weather running is the weather itself, as in temperatures below -20 Celsius I have had batteries drain almost instantaneously. Of course, then I had to think about what I was doing outside in the first place...

If you are up for some shovelling, you might still be able to have a good time in a foot or so of snow:

A foot of it gives some 1:1 cars problems, though, so probably best to keep your models for another day!

On my M-01, I taped shut any gaps in the gearbox and put clear plastic over the chassis tub, secured with tape. Didn't run into any electrical problems so far, but I didn't run it in deep snow. And I went back inside before the car was all filled with snow, and instantly cleaned it in the bathroom. 27mHz and brushed motor setup. Oh, and the motor is taped shut, too.

Got the TT02B out -it was okay but the Egress with Supper Grippers is excellent - rooster tails of snow and enough grip to have a lot of fun.

I've run mine this evening. Haven't got too much snow left at home (got tons still up the road in Glasgow) and just taped a bag over the receiver as the ESC and motor as waterproof anyway.

Broke it though :( The gearbox cover where the suspension arm mounts snapped. Probably not helped by the cold.
